Can someone please remind me what is the 24-hour phone activation limit for these (i.e., how many can I activate by phone within 24-hours before their system doesn’t allow you to activate anymore)? I forget where I read this (here, Reddit, etc.), and now I can’t find the information. I have one card that won’t activate and I am wondering if this is the issue. Thanks!
I don’t really get the significance I think. Is this for cards that have higher rewards for online shopping? Cuz most people online shop anyway so I don’t understand. I guess you can load tons on the gift card but you can’t withdraw to pay your CC back so now you gotta use it which you would have done anyway on your CC. lol see full 360
Imagine you have a spending bonus (spend $4k in 3 months for a $300 reward) and you have only spent about $3500. Buying a $500 Visa gift card puts you over the top.
Like many others, I recommend caution with Vanilla cards. Some places still accept them (Kaiser health insurance premiums worked for me) but many simply reject the transaction.
DoC started a post for who does/doesn’t accept Vanilla cards. Far from comprehensive, but definitely a good starting point: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/vanilla-visa-giftcards-discussion-post/
Upon further review, Are we sure these are Vanilla cards? I don’t see “Vanilla” or “Incomm” anywhere.
These are vanillas. Very difficult to use.
Can you explain further on how this is difficult? Doesn’t work online or in-store like walmart/target/major grocery chains?
I don’t MS so I never tried to use Vanillas at walmart or for MOs. When the assign zip code was working, they were okay to pay online bills (it worked about 40% of the time instead of 2%). But the amount of fraud and wasted time got pretty bad buying physical cards. So I tried online cards a few times. The gift card shop dot com is just a reseller or private label for Vanillas. They sent me a card that was not loaded / activated. It took 8 weeks to get a new card and the customer service from the gift card shop was non-existent, I had to go through Vanilla / incomm. I tried 1 more vanilla from CVS and told myself, never again. They just don’t work without a zip code (if you manage to get a good card that has not been hit with bots and frozen upon your activation).
not to be picky, and I am not a Vanilla shill, what you just said is not true. The 7.95 versions MUST be activated online BEFORE you can use them. This seemed to work to stop the past fraud. And the site is working 95% of the time time. Probably overloaded with MSers activating cards at certain times.
I also see that the site is down. This does not inspire a lot of confidence.
not true. I just used a 500.00 grocery store (7.95 fee ) Vanilla to pay NYSEG Elec and Travelers insurance. Used all of the 500.00 online. No problem. I know in the past they had problems but with the latest 7.95 fee cards, they seem ok to use now. I only buy with my BCP card.
How to best use this Visa GC? Can you do money order at Safeway/Walmart and get it back?
These cards work for MO at certain groceries. Must be activated first.
They are no go for Amex, right?
yep
