U.S. Bank Converting Some Cash+ Cardholders To Altitude Go Card

Some reddit users (1,2, 3) have reported receiving a letter from U.S. Bank informing them that their Cash+ card would be converted to the Altitude Go card. Previously U.S. Bank had sent out letters offering cardholders that hadn’t used the card recently the option to convert, but not it seems this is a forced conversion. The Cash+ is still accepting new applications, so this doesn’t seem to be a case of the card being discontinued.

I got an email this week from US Bank with an offer to convert my Cash+ account to Altitude Go (not forced). It talks about the benefits of switching and then there is a link to request the switch. It also states that there will be no change to my account number (Visa), CL, APR and due date. I haven’t decided yet to switch. There are no bonus points being offered, but neither of these cards are ones that I would apply for.

Are the terms the same on the Altitude GO Mastercard as it shows on the website for the Altitude GO Visa? Is it 4% back on restaurants and no foreign transaction fees, for example?

I got converted to a us bank altitude go Mastercard with no spend offer. Having previously worked there, I can tell you it’s because someone signed a deal with Mastercard and they need to inflate the book to meet the terms

William Charles US Bank is doing some targeted offer through email

Earn up to 20% more cash back (up to $20) on purchases after you spend $650.*
Enroll by March 31, 2023, and eligible purchases made from March 1 – April 30, 2023, will count toward this offer.

Terms and Conditions:

*To be eligible for this offer that runs March 1 – April 30, 2023 (promotion period), you need to enroll by March 31, 2023. Once you spend a net of $650 during the promotion period, additional net purchases (net purchases are purchases minus credits and returns) will be awarded a bonus .2% cash back per dollar spent (up to $20). The 20% more cash back is based on the 1% cash back you already earn, which means 1.2% cash back for every net dollar spent. If purchases during this promotion apply in your 5% or 2% categories, you’ll earn 5.2% and 2.2% cash back for those net purchases. The additional cash back will be credited to your Account 2-3 billing cycles after the end of the promotion period. Your Account must remain open, have available credit and be current (no minimum payment past due) to qualify. This offer only applies to this credit card and may not apply if the credit card type (for example, Platinum or Signature) or form of rewards that you earn (for example, points or cash) changes within 12 weeks before March 1, 2023, or changes before the additional cash back is applied. This offer is accurate as of February 1, 2023. If you have any questions, call Cardmember Service at 800-285-8585.

**Cash-back deals are currently available for personal credit cards only.

It’s a forced conversion. There is no way of opting out.

Got the letter this weekend. Haven’t used it in a few years, only holding bc its my oldest line after converting from flexperks. Supposedly they are going to cash out my $0.12 in rewards as a statement credit

I have it set up on auto pay for utilities, so maybe they won’t do it to me.

Same here. I pay about $300 for utilities each month using Cash+ and get $15 cash back. Hopefully they won’t force convert. I already have the Altitude Go card.

Cash plus is a fantastic card. Between starlinj, gas, electric, trash etc probably 500 a month minimum in utilities. Everything tracks easily.

How do I avoid this? If the letter comes in the mail can I decline the downgrade? I currently have 2 and use all the 5% categories pretty actively

All the anecdotes I’ve seen seem to be targeted to inactive accounts.
