The U.S. State Department has issued a level 3 global health advisory that all U.S. Citizens should reconsider travel abroad due to the global impact of COVID-19. The differing levels that can be issued are as follows:
- Level 1: Exercise Normal Precautions
- Level 2: Exercise Increased Caution
- Level 3: Reconsider Travel
- Level 4: Do Not Travel
A full list of travel advisories can always be viewed here.
Now State department issued Level 4 globally.

Thanks, posted now
Does this mean my 75,000 Delta Miles has less value?
Okay…. gimme a break…
Most other countries (especially Latin America) are probably safer than your own neighborhood right now.
Ask your maid if she feels the same way
Which is probably why people shouldn’t be travelling to them….
Level 5: travelers will be shot on sight.
Level 6 – if you aren’t a zombie yet, consider yourself lucky…or maybe not
Level 7: Assimilation complete.
Level 8: Error 404 humans not found.
Level 8: Sit home and read stupid comments like this all day. (Wish they had got me at level 5).
I appreciate that Covid-19 has extreme consequences for travel, BUT: DoC is supposed to be focused on credit cards and bank accounts. While I understand that many people use credit cards to achieve free/discounted travel, all the posts about change/cancellation policies, travel advisories, etc. are distracting and don’t really belong here. Respectfully submitted.
> DoC is supposed to be focused on credit cards and bank accounts.
Says who? This blog was originally about credit scoring models, over time that has morphed. Part of the credit card game is travel. It’s pretty easy to work out what posts you find interesting by the title and it doesn’t take long to scroll through to find the posts that interest you.
I like things off the beaten path. If smth interesting about Champions League or NBA is posted, etc. I would be curious to read.
Whatevwr
lol so butthurt
His website, he can do whatever da fuq he wants.
Amen
If you don’t like it, don’t read it. For me, this is the first I heard about the Level change. I definitely appreciated that.
Are there special people on this site who can still downvote?
I wonder at what point AirBNB is going take notice and actually help out customers with existing bookings
Ditto.
That’d would have nice. Booked an Airbnb early last week for an upcoming convention and it just got postponed. About 24 hours out of range for a full refund. Hoping my CSR will cover it.
If you have any luck, let me know.
Called Airbnb they said no way in hell getting a refund.
But if it has something to do with HEAVEN…you can get one!
Just announced https://techcrunch.com/2020/03/13/airbnb-extends-no-charge-cancellation-policy-due-to-coronavirus/
We have been trying to work with them and the host on a “very strict” cancellation policy booking coming up this month and made zero progress until today. Now they offered us 100% refund even though we were not in the contractually allowed cancellation period. I would suggest trying again and also note that various CSR do not provide consistent information so may require a bit of your time.
If infection rates spike, we don’t have enough hospital beds…
Red Alert: US is way behind in hospital beds per capita.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_OECD_countries_by_hospital_beds
So, please do our best to mitigate the infection!
“Boomer remover” is an awful name. Don’t be an asshole.
We probably have more cases than Europe simply because we are not doing tests or there are no test kits.

But let’s be clear: hoard toilet paper!
I guess some people think the virus causes diarrhea.
You can’t find what you’re not testing for. We like our numbers where they are. /s
So you are joining in the mass hysteria and panic based on “probably”. How about we don’t run around jumping to conclusions based on conjectures and guesses. The only thing people like you do are doing is creating a bigger panic which is worse than the virus itself. Whole school systems are shutting down for weeks – you know how many kids will get injured or die because they are home all day with no parental supervision?
The fact it’s extremely difficult to get tested for this virus in the US. Here in WA, they were finding people with this disease who have been dead for a while. How many more dead there are that are not accounted for?
This is an ignorant take from likely someone who is not trained in the medical profession
The number of “kids who will die” is FAR exponentially less the the lives that will be saved by reduced social interaction
But if you don’t believe in science I can’t help you
The virus is spreading so fast even whole Italy system is about to collapse and you are upset about children are going to be at home without supervision? Classic parent who can not raise their own child right therefore does not trust leaving them alone…
Then be mad at the idiots in charge of ensuring there were enough test kits who sat on their hands for the weeks of advance notice we had while this was running through China. You can’t claim we shouldn’t “jump to conclusions based on guesses” when the only reason ANYONE has to do that is because the previously mentioned idiots who refused testing kits and called this a Hoax while it spread, to whatever degree it has, throughout the US.
When all people are left with is to prepare for the unknown, they are going to prepare to a significant degree. While not all of their preparations are entirely logical, it’s still not their fault they were needlessly put there to begin with.
An alternative example further proving how wrong you are is South Korea. They are testing people to an extreme, and they are starting to see positive results and a slowdown of infection rates. Turns out when you seek out the information you need you can make better choices. So again, it’s very obvious where the blame should be directed, and it’s not towards the people that are scared.
South Korea’s land mass is much smaller than the USA… And the number of potential airports is much smaller. We are talking apples to oranges here…
This is not panic. Reasonable conjectures and guesses help people take measures. What I saw is that many people are still overlooking, joining crowded gatherings and traveling around the country.
As long as they don’t die from the virus it’s a win.
The entire world?
