Hawaii governor David Ige recently announced that started October 15 travelers would be able to skip the mandatory 14 day quarantine period if they have a negative pre travel COVID test that is no more than 72 hours old. Today United has announced that customers will be able to take a rapid test at the airport or a self collected mail in test ahead of their trip. There will be two tests offered:
- Rapid Abbott ID NOW COVID-19 test – administered by GoHealth Urgent Care. This is the in airport test and provides results within 15 minutes.
- Mail-in test option will be administered by Color. Customers are advised to initiate testing at least 10 days prior to their trip and provide the sample within 72 hours.
I couldn’t find a mention of cost in the United press release, although VFTW reports $250 for the rapid test and $80 for the mail in option. If Hawaii is going to allow these rapid tests, I’m surprised they don’t just make it an option on arrival for everybody.
