United To Offer COVID-19 Tests For San Francisco To Hawaii Flights

Hawaii governor David Ige recently announced that started October 15 travelers would be able to skip the mandatory 14 day quarantine period if they have a negative pre travel COVID test that is no more than 72 hours old. Today United has announced that customers will be able to take a rapid test at the airport or a self collected mail in test ahead of their trip. There will be two tests offered:

  • Rapid Abbott ID NOW COVID-19 test – administered by GoHealth Urgent Care. This is the in airport test and provides results within 15 minutes.
  • Mail-in test option will be administered by Color. Customers are advised to initiate testing at least 10 days prior to their trip and provide the sample within 72 hours.

I couldn’t find a mention of cost in the United press release, although VFTW reports $250 for the rapid test and $80 for the mail in option. If Hawaii is going to allow these rapid tests, I’m surprised they don’t just make it an option on arrival for everybody.
