USAA has sent out e-mails informing cardholders of increased earning rates. They are as follows:
USAA Rewards American Express Card
- 3x points on dining
- 2x points on gas and groceries
- 1x points on all other purchases
USAA Rewards Visa
- 2x points on gas and dining
- 1x points on all other purchases
Our Verdict
Previously the American Express card still outearned the Visa card, so this is really a positive change across the board. That being said you should be earning at least 2% cash back on all purchases so 2x categories aren’t very useful. In addition it’s possible to earn at a higher rate on dining purchases (e.g Barclays Uber card earns 4% cash back).
