R/churning member justininsidebeiber got a picture (shown below) of an internal memo from Wells Fargo indicating that the no-fee Propel credit card will be revamped to earn 3x points on travel and dining.
The memo is regarding the no-annual-fee Wells Fargo Propel card (not the Propel World) which currently earns 3x gas, 2x restaurants, and 1x elsewhere. It also has a 10% relationship bonus which comes at year’s end.
According to the memo, Wells Fargo will be revamped to earn 3x on travel and dining, with 1x everywhere else.
The memo also stipulates that the 10% relationship bonus will be discontinued after May 31. Based on that date, I’d guess the new redesigned card will become available for signups in June or July.
The 3x travel/dining is similar to the Chase Sapphire Reserve, but without the option for outsized travel redemptions. Still could be a decent no-fee card for the 3% travel/dining categories.
Also remember that the Wells Fargo Propel World card which has a $175 annual fee and a 40,000 points signup bonus still seems to be available over the phone, but will be discontinued after March 31.

Wait. Are these points transferable to Visa Signature?
A no-fee card (Propel) giving 3x at travel/restaurant. Another no-fee card (Visa Signature) giving 1.5c redemptions on travel on those points (no cashback on paying with points).
That is, a net 4.3% cashback on travel and restaurants. With two no-fee cards.
Hhuh..
Can anyone confirm if this works (the 1.5X multiplier)? Does it work for the SUB? Does it work for CashWise points?
So, people who pay the AF of 175 get a crappier card than this No AF version? Figures
hopefully can downgrade to this option, once your year is up.
A lot of inaccuracies here. This is NOT pertaining to the Propel World card.
Fixed, thanks
I tried calling Amex and Wells Fargo a couple of times to try to get amex offers working on this card without success. Has anyone succesfully used the cards to get amex offers? http://www.amexoffers.com/propel does not seem to work I get the error- systems are down try again in 15 minutes.
By reading the letter attached, I am assuming those with the current card are being converted to this rewards system?
Same question I have. I have the card.
One benefit ppl fail to mention is if you have the card and put your cell phone bill on it (or any cell phone bill) you can use it for cell phone insurance. They’ll cover break damage etc to your phone 2x a year up to $600

a little confused. in the article you write about Wells Fargo Propel, but picture is Wells Fargo Propel World. Any confirmation if this is about Propel the no fee card or Propel World the $175 fee card?
Fixed the post now
I’m confused; if this is a relaunch of Propel it isn’t a replacement for Propel World.
Fixed the post now
Did the card have the 16-month restriction on bonus like the other cards?
Yes
PenFed credit union pathfinder rewards amex credit card is much better than this paltry credit card….
The signup bonus (Effectively $600 worth of travel with the base GoFar Rewards card) + $100 credit with no fee for the first year made it worth signing up for. That being said I don’t see a good reason to keep my checking account open without the relationship bonus, plus it sucks that I didn’t even get that feature for the full year.
Can you stop spamming CU cards on every post already?
“Spamming” is such a McCarthyist term. Just stating my opinion that certain credit union credit cards have more generous cash back benefits than the mainstream big banks.
As long as CU cards don’t have signup bonuses like the big bank coutnerparts, all of them are inferior to everyone. You need to spend $10000 in a +1% category just to break even with a $100 signup. I’d rather spend that on another signup bonus yielding me up to $2000 in points.
Well the PenFed credit union pathfinder rewards amex credit card dies have a sign bonus:
Sign up bonus of 25,000 points after spending $2,500 or more within the first 90 days
$100 credit towards TSA PreCheck or Global Entry. This applies once every five years
Albeit the sign up bonus isn’t as high as the big bank credit cards, the 4x points or 3.4% cash back on travel, very broad definition of travel, makes the aforementioned credit card a definite keeper.
And how do you redeem these PenFed travel points? Can you transfer them to an airline miles program? Can you use them to liquidate your purchase of tickets directly from an airline? Or are you limited to redeeming the points through a “portal” managed by the card issuer?
David,
Most people dont like the Pathfinder card because
1. Penfed pathfinder’s points are only worth 0.85 of a cent per point.
2. You cant even cash in the points. You are stuck with exchanging it for gift cards.
3. To get that 1 extra point you have to be a military or maintain a checking account with them. Most people do not want to open or maintain another checking account with another bank they know nothing about.
4. There is no airline or hotel transfer partner.
5. You have to use their portal to redeem your points into an airfare or a hotel room
6. Their travel portal charges you $15 airline booking fee.
It’s a good “beginner’s level” card because of the zero annual fee, the $100 annual airline incidental credit, and the Global Entry credit. But that’s about it.
For “intermediate level” people and higher, they can find better cards elsewhere.
have you found out what airline GC can trigger PenFed Pathfinder $100 airline credit?
David, I already asked you to stop posting about this card on literally every thread regarding credit cards. Your comments are almost never relevant.
