Our Verdict
We’ve given you some warning about this deal (here and here, comments might be helpful) so you should all be ready for this. You’ll be blocked from doing more than $300 online, but you’ll be able to do $300 online and another $300 in store (and likely possible to do more than one transaction in store or across multiple stores).
Target mostly codes as a grocery store in store, so make sure to use a credit card that earns at a high rate on grocery store purchases. Just keep in mind not all Target stores code that way (use the Visa MCC lookup tool to check your local store). Otherwise use a credit card that earns at a high rate on all purchases. Another option would be to use an American Express card offering 2x points at Target.
You can sort of stack this with the Target REDcard to get another 5% off, when you go to redeem the target gift cards you can use your REDcard and as long as you’re not purchasing other gift cards it should work fine. These aren’t profitable from a resale perspective, but many people like discounted Target gift cards for gift or purchase purposes.
As far as I know, no portals earn cash back/points/miles on Target gift card purchase.
