Our Verdict

We’ve given you some warning about this deal (here and here, comments might be helpful) so you should all be ready for this. You’ll be blocked from doing more than $300 online, but you’ll be able to do $300 online and another $300 in store (and likely possible to do more than one transaction in store or across multiple stores).

Target mostly codes as a grocery store in store, so make sure to use a credit card that earns at a high rate on grocery store purchases. Just keep in mind not all Target stores code that way (use the Visa MCC lookup tool to check your local store). Otherwise use a credit card that earns at a high rate on all purchases. Another option would be to use an American Express card offering 2x points at Target.

You can sort of stack this with the Target REDcard to get another 5% off, when you go to redeem the target gift cards you can use your REDcard and as long as you’re not purchasing other gift cards it should work fine. These aren’t profitable from a resale perspective, but many people like discounted Target gift cards for gift or purchase purposes.

As far as I know, no portals earn cash back/points/miles on Target gift card purchase.

Have you guys checked your new target eGC balance recently? It seems that since 12/8, people started to report that eGC bought from old target GCs got deactivated. And the original payment did not even go back to the old gift cards (https://slickdeals.net/f/9482675-target-gift-card-10-off-mail-email-or-mobile-delivery?page=60#comments)!

FYI…I clicked through Simply Best Coupons for 5%CB early this morning and I received a notice that it was earned. Hopefully it will stick because they actually had a little incentive ad-block that was selling the click through to Target WOULD earn the 5% CB. Must have because I got the email verification sn hour or two back. I also experimented with TopCashBack and BeFrugal but I dunno on those yet

Hmm, bummer — looks like you can’t roll gift cards this year. It was either last year or the year before I used Target gift cards to buy Target gift cards when this promo came around.

I just bought Target gift card with Target gift card after adding a 49 cent ruler to the cart as a filler. I’m going to make an in-store purchase and hope that I get an extra 6% back since my local Target is coded as grocery using the BCP.

So how did you find that out? Buy something with Amex Blue 6% card and see it on the invoice? Never thought about that… target a grocery store? Okay.

It varies from Target to Target.

I was able to use a gift card as form of payment as well. You must include other item(s) to your order that are not gift cards. However, I suggest WAITING a bit to see if any of us reports that our orders are actually honored.

I received my e-gift cards within an hour and my ruler has already shipped, plus ebates also tracked the order for an additional 1% CB.

Can you use the Target gift card to buy Disney Gift cards?

Used to be able to but not sure these days…people are saying no but I think it may work if you add a filler non gift card item

Are there any Disney shutdowns?

If you have the Amex Staples offer of $20 back on $100, you may want to use that instead to buy Target GCs.

Has this been verified?
I think last time when I bought Target gift card on Ebay, in store they told me I wouldnt be able to get the 5% that I would using the red card because I am paying with gift card.

You get the extra 5% online, not in store when using a Target gift card.

You can’t get extra 5% with red card.

What do you end up using yours for since the resale value has crashed. Do you use it for reselling etc.?

How about if I buy online using 3 different names and credit cards but the same address?

are you using the same account? not sure why you dont just hit multiple stores at different times with different employees and just rape it. unless youre questioning the effort.time.resources to do so…

I did that with multiple accounts, multiple email addresses, multiple credit cards, same billing address…

1 of my 2 email GC orders got canceled.
Still waiting for a ship notification on 1 physical GC order.

They may be checking billing addresses.  So this is likely 1 per household.

well i thot it was obvious so I didnt say it but yes. they do ban accounts and cross reference addresses. no different than BS paypal or ebay. hence i said go in store. you will never get trouble there. but i guess its just easier to do it online with multiple accounts. YMMV.

Dang. Didn’t think they would ban! Hasn’t happened yet. Bought 4 x $300 in store. I wonder if they cross check credit cards.
