Walgreen’s does sell variable-load Vanilla gift cards which can be loaded with up to $500. (Note that some Walgreen’s may limit you to $500 in gift cards per day in which case this deal won’t be worthwhile.)
The Fine Print
- “Limit $500 load per card brand (up to daily purchasing limits per person).”
- Limit 2 $5 Walgreen’s gift card deals per person, except in NM.
- Walgreen’s Balance Rewards card is required for this promotion.
Our Verdict
This deal was around this past August and October and it’s a nice way to help offset the $4.95 fee that comes with each gift card. The deal will probably only be worth your while if you have a credit card that earns bonus points at drugstores, such as the old Blue Cash card from American Express.
As we know, Vanilla cards don’t work well at Walmart so it’s only worth proceeding if you have a liquidation plan.

REDbird would still work for Vanilla Visa gift cards.

Yes, I should have mentioned that some Walgreens won’t accept credit cards on Vanilla Visa card purchases. I’ve had mixed success in the past.
