Our Verdict

Sorry that we posted this so late, hopefully some of you are able to take advantage before the deal expires. That said, this is a recurring offer for Walgreens so we’d be surprised if it doesn’t come back the week after next. To make the most out of this deal, you’ll want to use a credit card that earns at a high rate on grocery store purchases. Alternatively you could use your Discover it card if you’ve enrolled it in the “Pick a store for 5% cash back” promotion (it’s not to late to still enroll). Assuming you used a card that earns 5% cash back and you bought two $500 gift cards here is how much profit you’d make:

  • 2 * $504.95 = $1009.9
  • $1009.9 * 5% = $50.495
  • And a $5 Walgreens giftcard (could be sold for 83% on facevalue according to giftcardgranny or $4.15)

You’d end up paying a total of $955.255 for $1000 in Visa gift cards or ~4.5% cashback. Those who are into manufactured spending should hop on this deal, for those who don’t manufacture spend this might still be a good deal as it allows you to earn close to 5% cashback on all of your purchases.
