Our Verdict

Doesn’t look like partner awards are changing at all. Seems to also be a relatively even mix across the board rather than the previous award charts just being gutted. Would be interested to know others thoughts in the comments below.

These flight award adjustments do not tell the whole story. Avianca Lifemiles may lower certain award thresholds and then restrict availability, thus canceling the net reward for the customer.

AA is a good example. They have maintained the same award levels but have reduced availability on many flight routes compared to 1 or 2 years before.

Anybody with more examples?

It’s also worth noting that a lot of domestic United award routes are no longer available via LifeMiles as of a few weeks ago: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/avianca-lifemiles-amigo/1830576-what-should-bookable-lifemiles-but-isn-t-thread.html

These are flights that are available as award flights via United.com, AeroCanada, etc, but are not available through LifeMiles.

Wow, Avianca just robbed all North American members who acquired their miles for domestic travel.

Pretty much. That’s exactly what I got the Banco Popular card for.

Now I have 60k points, and nothing to use them on.

Compared to other airlines’ award chart changes, this doesn’t seem too bad.
