Back at the start of November, Evolve Money announced that users would be able to use it’s online bill payment platform to use Discover credit cards to pay all bills without any fees with plans to add Visa & MasterCard in the future. Today I received an e-mail from Evolve Money stating that this feature will not be available on some bills on their platform starting today (you might still be able to squeeze in one more payment).
Below is a list of bills which will no longer be payable using a credit card:
- Mortgages
- Car payments
- Retail store cards
- 529 savings account
- Student loans
You’ll still be able to use any of the other payment methods Evolve money accepts (debit cards, cash packs). They also announced that starting January consumers will be able to use Vanilla reloads to pay bills. Obviously this is a pretty disappointing change, whilst you only earned 1% cash back for using your Discover card it was very convenient for paying these loans/bills.
Evolve money seems to be taking the one step forward two steps back approach recently, let’s hope in the new year that things improve rather than deteriorate and we see them add some much needed features (e.g allowing users to pay bills in excess of $1,000 and payments with credit cards other than Discover). It’s also pretty disappointing that this change was made with no notice.
Full e-mail is set out below.
Hat tip to Dustin on Twitter.
Any takers on whether or not Evolve goes under in the next six to twelve months???
They offer a convenience and then take it away. Not a way to make your customers happy.
I think you are confusing two separate issues. My notice from BB said that THEY would no longer let you load your BB acct. with Vanilla. As far as I know, Vanilla will continue to exist and be sold. For some purpose that totally escapes me.
Did I read somewhere Vanilla is done in May?
As I mentioned in my comment, Bluebird did last week.
This is such a huge bummer, my next “big” idea was to leverage Discover and Evolve
Vanilla Reloads…?? Bluebird just told us those were going away completely the first half of 2015…
