iConsumer Removes 4% eBay Rate

The iConsumer portal no longer offers the 4% rate on eBay – their new rate is just 1.5%. Looks like the change happened on Friday, 2/19.

Luckily, after a bit of the slump, some other portals are back up to 2% or even 2.1% (TCB) for eBay purchase – see all portal rates here.

We had hoped that the 4% rate was a more permanent fixture as a loss-leader (see this Frequentmiler interview with iConsumer’s founder), but apparently it was too expensive even at the 4% rate.

Getting your Cashback

Cashout details

  • You need $25 to cash out the portal. If you have less, it could be worth doing some more purchases through the portal to meet the threshold.
  • There is an inactivity fee that kicks in after 2-years.
  • All cashback should be payable within 90-days.
  • Currently, payout is via check only. They say to be working on a Paypal and ACH option.
  • Remember to add your name and address here, otherwise, you won’t be able to get a check.

And, of course, we’ll keep an eye out for them in the future to see if they have good rates for other merchants.

Every day I check this portal and the stinkin’ rate changes. 8% then 4%, 1.5%, and now its back up to 3%. Tomorrow it will be 0.5%..

Double cashback promo is back through 2/28. Ebay back to being the best option at 3% including the doubling, and many other merchants very attractive.

Feels like a bit of a bait and switch. Hoping to lure people in with the up to $20/mo and then pull the plug and give a rate that’s not even currently top 3 for ebay (as opposed to being #1). There’s probably been half a dozen different rate and terms changes which leads me to believe they’ve been winging this entire promo. I was hoping they’d be a solid upcoming cash back portal and while the jury is still out, it’s not instilling a ton of confidence. It’s not the end of the world, we know it happens with cash back portals. I’ll hit $25 and then move on.

2% is this highest I see anyone giving. The 4% does seem like a loss leader that got iConsumer a lot of attention. Maybe it was worth it for them.

Although there was a limit of $400 of spending at Ebay that you can get 4% cash back. So what is it now that I’ve already spent that $400? Will I still get 2% on my future purchases (with no limit)?

Don’t see why they’d cap the 1.5% for ebay given that they’re not the highest offer out there and it’s safe to assume they’re not losing money at this rate.

I’m not sure how legit iConsumer is. I had a valid eBay auction that I won (non gift card, non excluded category) & paid for it after clicking through the iConsumer link during the promo period.

The cashback never appeared and when I initiated a missing transaction request, they came back saying eBay denied a payout and as such, I won’t be getting any cashback. I just requested them to delete my account as I was just turned off by the whole incident.
