Recap: Chase Recon, Sears Double Dip, Amtrak Offer, Free MR Points & More

  • Is the Sears double dip dead for real this time? by FrequentMiler. I’m really curious about this one; I hate the fuzz, looking forward to the next FM post on this when things will hopefully be clearer.

  • USAA is switching over all its debit and credit cards from Mastercard to Visa by WSJ (just google: “USAA Switching Credit, Debit Cards to Visa From Longtime Partner MasterCard” to get past the paywall). Visa also got the Costco partnership recently, together with Citi. Mastercard is probably under pressure now to try pulling in a big deal.

  • $25 Off $100 on Amtrak purchases with a registered Amex card. This offer is showing up on many cards and it should be useful to some. Holiday season is coming and it looks like Amex Offers are beefing up recently.

  • Earn 10,000 Membership Rewards Points To Enroll Pay Over Time This offer is now showing up again for many. From what I’ve read, there is no credit inquiry done and there’s no downside in registering just to get the free points. It would be really interesting if it’s possible for anyone to get themselves targeted with this offer by using the Bonus ID mentioned in the article. I haven’t tried yet myself, let us know is you have success.

  • Report on Reddit indicates that you have to wait some time after cancelling a Chase card before the system ‘clears’ you out and recognizes that your card is closed. Interesting. I wonder how long it takes.

  • Chase Reconsideration by Secure Message does work! by Demflyers. I found this one very interesting. Sounds like it will only work if you’ve already called in since you need an excuse to demand that the front-line rep sends it up a supervisor. We all love things which can be done via SM and we’ll have to keep this in mind for the future.

  • Only a few days left for the $1-2k Bank of America business checking account bonus, it expires 10/30/15.

I tried to get Amex to enroll me in extended payment to get the bonus, they looked my account up and said I wasn’t eligible even with the bonus ID. Oh well.
