- JetBlue Two Day ‘Summer Must’ Sale. Lots of flights on sale, might be useful for those completing the Virgin America deal.
- Discover sends out 9 month Cashback Match update by Miles Per Day. Seems to be for new cardholders only, it’s nice to get an update to see how much cash back you’re eligible for doubling.
- Citi Retention Department Closed? A reader reported that when they tried to be transferred to Citi’s retention department they were told it was closed, when they they asked the rep the rep said it was closed for good. Has anybody been able to call retention recently or have any additional information about this?
- Splender increased cash back rates. Not the best rate for all of the listed merchants, but best for a lot of them.
I called yesterday to make my last debit card payment with my T-Mobile card 🙁 while I was on the phone it seems like a good time to check on retention offers so I asked about it. The rep told me that he could see that I was eligible for a retention offer but he indicated that the retention department had been closed temporarily while they were “restructuring” he said they plan to reopen soon and encouraged me to call back on Monday.
I called today on my prestige card and was told they are closed to help deal with the Costco card mess. The CSR assured me the would be open again in July.
I agree with Daniel, though I’ll put a different spin on it. I called last week about a Citicard approaching its annual fee date. After an extended hold, I finally got a rep whose accent sounded Philippino. Citi reps in the USA usually come on the phone and announce “This is (First Name) in South Dakota.” But the rep I spoke with did not start with such a statement. I was told that my only option was to cancel the card, and that it was not possible to transfer me to retentions. My spin: Philippino reps are either not as competent as reps in the USA or perhaps they don’t have the same ability to transfer the call? This rep couldn’t even tell me on what date my annual fee would post.
Why did I get a Philippino rep? Because all the USA reps are tied up with the Costco card, I think.
I hung up and will call back on another day.
Flyertalk is indicating Citi is all hands on deck with the Costco card stuff so that may be why retentions is temporarily closed.
Good point, forgot about that.
Hopefully that’s the case. Flat out closing the dept for good would be terrible.
