Our Verdict

I’m really hopeful that the Sears and Staples gift card deals will still be around in a little over an hour when the Bucks offer goes live (8 AM PT or 11 AM ET). If that works, it would be  a whopper deal that really couldn’t get better. (If you buy 2 Sears gift cards for $170, it should trigger the 4x Bucks deal.)

Note that it may be smarter to go through a mileage portal for .5 or 1 mile per dollar on eBay, so as to take advantage of great holiday shopping portal bonuses which can net you 4x-5x or even more when maxed out, see Great Shopping Portal Bonuses for Southwest, AAdvantage, Alaska & United for more details. (In the calulations below we just used the 2% cashback figure to calculate profits on the reselling of gift cards, but for mileage options could be a better deal.)

Staples e-gift cards

The Staples e-gift cards can resold to Cardpool for 84% of their value.

  • Pay $340 for $400 in gift cards
  • Sell for $336 to Cardpool
  • Get $27.20 back in Bucks
  • Get $6.80 back from the portal
  • Get 5x INK points, worth at least $17
  • Profit: $47

Sears gift cards

The Sears gift cards can be sold to Cardpool or Saveya for 84.5% of their value.

  • Pay $170 for $200 in gift cards
  • Sell for $169 to Cardpool or Saveya
  • Get $13.60 back in Bucks
  • Get $3.40 back from the portal
  • Get 2% back from the credit card, or $3.40
  • Profit: $19.40

Great deals. But don’t wait this one out. I doubt the Sears and Staples will last long after the Bucks deal goes live.
