Updates on iConsumer Portal & eBay Cashback Rate

A few quick updates on the iConsumer portal.

eBay Cashback Details

  • The portal initially offered 8% – unlimited.
  • Then it was 16%, with a limit of $20 per month.
  • Then it was just 8%, with a limit of $20 per month.
  • For a few short moments, it was 8% with a limit of $80 per month. iConsumer informs me now that this was a temporary glitch.
  • Now, they lowered the cashback amount to 4%, still with a max of $20 per month.
  • I verified with iConsumer that the cashback resets on the first day of each calendar month, so February 1st starts over a new $20 limit.

Folks who made purchases on eBay when it was supposed to be unlimited are still getting limited to the $20 per month. They are not swallowing their mistakes.  🙁

Social Security Number

Readers mentioned that you’ll need to give in your SSN since they’re issuing stock. I reached out to iConsumer to verify that the portal does not require an SSN. They confirmed that unless you get $600+ over the course of the year or if you want to receive stock, you won’t need to give in your SSN.

Readers have clarified that the 1099 is only for $600+ in bonuses, not for cashback earned from shopping.

Referral Bonus

Frequentmiler reports that iConsumer now added $10 to the referral bonus for referring new members. The new member gets 100 shares, and after the new member makes a purchase, the referrer will get $10 + 100 shares. This $10 bonus goes on until 2/14/16.

Final Thoughts

iConsumer pays out via check. Minimum of $25 needed to cashout. I think I’ll continue using them for eBay, up to $20 per month, and hope for the best. To each their own. Hopefully, with the new 4% rate, it will be sustainable for the long run, at $20 per month. And maybe we’ll end up with something from all these stock earnings. Of course, there’s always risk dealing with a new portal.

Now other update CashBack is typically NOT available on the purchase of Gift Cards. Please review the Gift Cards category for a list of merchants that offer this benefit and confirm with individual brands’ Known Exceptions for additional details.

2 for 2 as far as eBay tracking is concerned! They are looking better than InboxDollars – just have to wait 90 days and see if they pay. The information provided by iConsumer held true (sometimes I am skeptical about information provided by companies until I actually see it in action); I got $20 from the eBay purchase made on 1/24 and another $20 from one made on 2/1.

My one Ebay purchase also tracked today. So far so good with this company. If they can keep the 4% rate that would be pretty awesome. Even if they lowered it to 2% I would be okay with it as it’s still almost double the going rate. Have you made any purchases from other stores using this portal?

I concur 🙂 I’ve only used them for eBay b/c they did not offer the best rate for other stores I’ve made purchases from (Sears, Newegg, Cameta Camera, TigerDirect)

“We’re sorry, but we are temporarily unable to track cash back rebates at GiftCards.”. Did anyone get this?

Just like the doc said, they confirmed that unless you get $600+ over the course of the year or if you want to receive stock, you won’t need to give in your SSN. Oh yeah, here’s my referral link. I recommend, you click it!

I understand that. I saw others mention they were asked for their SSN. I’m simply saying I never was. Were you?

I was not asked for it either, although in the “welcome email”, it advised me to “please go to your My Settings page to update your address, mobile number, and social security number”.
However, under My Settings I was NOT asked for my SSN. So I never provided it, and my ebay purchases have been tracking about 4 days after each transaction. So far so good….

Chuck (or anyone else),

I asked Will this in the other thread but he hasn’t responded yet. When did you get asked to give your SSN? I signed up yesterday and made a purchase through the portal but was never asked for my SSN. Does it happen if/when I request a check?

Want to clear up the 1099. They will issue you a 1099 if you receive $600 in BONUSES (ex. Referrals) not cash back earned. If this helps clarify, I’ll shamelessly plug my referral 🙂
