The Offer
- Recently I’ve received a number of tips that it’s possible to get a 30,000 point sign up bonus (10,000 points after first purchase & 20,000 points after you make $5,000 in purchases within six months) on the Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card from American Express. The standard bonus is 25,000 points. This is not a public offer, there are currently two ways to get this to show:
- Create a new SPG account. People are reporting that when they create an SPG account, at the end of the registration process they see an offer for 30,000 starpoints. This isn’t always triggered when you open a new account (I tried a few myself), but it does happen for some.
- Book a room with SPG. Other people are reporting that after they’ve booked a room they see the same offer appear on the confirmation page.
The Fine Print
- Annual fee of $65 is waived first year
Our Verdict
This is similar to the Chase IHG 80k + $50 statement credit deal we’ve posted about previously. I tried to make several bookings and create several accounts to get the SPG offer to show, but I was unable to do so. That being said, I’ve heard from enough people that have been able to get the offer to show that I thought that this was worth posting.
Unfortunately this will only work for the personal version of the card, I don’t have any ideas on how to get a similar offer to appear for the business version of this card. The 30,000 point offers on the SPG cards typically come around once a year, so if you can’t get this offer to show up just be patient and wait for the public offer to come around.
It also looks like the offer is tied to the account, but if you do get it to show please post it in the comments and maybe somebody can get the link to work publicly.
