Our Verdict
Significant discount, but the travel window is very small so not sure how useful this will actually be. If you use this deal, please let us know in the comments so we know to keep posting similar deals.
Just booked Charlottesville to DC and back for 10/10. Nice day out for $20.
I checked from Newport News, VA to Alexandria, VA (and return) and it just automatically came up as $10, with “promo applied” under the cost.
Also was able to book a round trip from Lynchburg to Manassas for $10/way. But when I changed destination to DC, I only saw regular prices? Great chance for a one-day visit with a friend in Centreville. Thanks, Doc, love posts about Amtrak sales!
So I’ve been on the site trying to find this price. I entered a Virginia town one-way to DC Oct. 4. It comes up regular price at $37. I go all the way thru entering name, e-mail, etc to get to the pay screen. There is only the option to enter a cc, a voucher, or gift card. I can see nowhere to enter a promo code (I tried to put the code in the voucher box and it didn’t work). I have given up on Amtrak before because of their clunky website, but this made me curious to try it again. Any tips to get this to work?
Are you sure the train is the Northeast Regional. That’s the only one this $10 fare is valid with.
OIC from DC to Virginia and back only.
I suppose if you wanted to ride on the train all day you can get DC to Newport News for $10 on the weekend. It’s a 170 mile, 4 hour ride one way for $10 bucks, normally a $50 ticket. There’s a map of where they go here https://www.amtrak.com/services/contentService.iblegacy.routes.northeast-regional.html

I read that To/From as “either”, but I think its “and”. So only works from DC/Virginia to DC/Virginia. I can’t imagine those tickets are super expensive, but nice to have savings any way you can get it now with Amtrak.
I agree. Can’t get these $200 tickets to be $10 and it’s a northeast regional route.
