Mastercard Launches ‘World Legend Mastercard’

Mastercard announced today a new premium tier in their ‘World’ card lineup called ‘World Legend Mastercard’. The card rounds out their portfolio of cards with World, World Elite, and now the World Legend Mastercard targeting higher spending customers.

They also announced the unveiling of a new suite of elevated benefits – The Mastercard Collection – across its World, World Elite and newly created World Legend Mastercard cards.

Benefits include priority reservations at sought-after restaurants, premium seating for in-demand music/sporting events, fast-track security lanes at over 30 airports, and access to more than 1,350 airport lounges.

Our Verdict

The World Legend line seems to be the Mastercard answer to the Visa Infinite line. I’m not seeing much detail into any of the new benefits for World cards or what the benefits will be on the World Legend cards. It’s unlikely to be anything too exciting on the broad Mastercard level. Of course, each bank will create custom benefits for each of their cards.

I’m sure several cards will be converted from World Elite to World Legend in the coming months.

Absolutely, they will surely flood the market with WL! Nothing screams affluent, premium, and high-spending customers like a $200 World Legend Mastercard.

Introduce a new luxury Legends tier and increase profits through higher interchange fees.

Curious about “fast-track security lanes at over 30 airports”

card holders get to drive racing car(d) to speed through the security lanes. win to become the true World Legend Master if you reach finishing line first. otherwise, you lose and go to the questioning room for world legend detention

Definitely has my attention. Lots of local fast lanes around the world (e.g. at Brussels airport with a Belgian Amex Platinum) that’d be great perks.

Or out of the NFC chip; tap to Pay is replaced by Zap to Pay.

The card tier title hyperinflation is comical.
It started with regular/classic, Gold, Platinum.
Soon, even the sub-prime $300 limit cards were issued Platinum.
Then it’s Visa Signature / World MasterCard with $5K min. credit limit brand standard (still low for a supposedly premium tier card).
Visa Infinite’s 10K min. appears to be holding for now. But “World Legend”, really? MasterCard?

And now $200 cards are also World Elite. The whole system is a joke.

I think there are some no-fee World Elite cards.

Because interchange fees are higher on World Elite. Pure and simple.

The credit limit minimum for Visa Signature ($5K) and Infinite ($10K) is a myth, busted by US Bank giving out $500 and $5000 limits respectively.
