A number of readers asked about the report from a few months ago that Citi is on hiatus from doing product changes (for reasons that aren’t entirely clear). The hiatus dragged on, possibly until the end of 2015.
The good news is that Citi product changes are now back to normal.
TWoK and Milestomemories were able to do product changes recently. Other friends have had success with this as well.
I just PC’d my Premier to a Double Cash. It was still within my first year of membership.
Were you after 11-months? I remember Chasingthepoints posted something about PC between 11 and 12 months.
Couple of questions:
1. Is it worth it to attempt to convert my ThankYou Preferred card to the Citi Dividend Card? I’d say yes because I don’t use the TYP card very often anyway.
2. IS the rewards system linked to the ThankYou points or is it its own reward system?
Can I convert my Simplicity to AAdvantage Platinum Select? I know I won’t get the miles but I wanted to take advantage of the 50k citigold offer.
I have two citi professional cards for a long time. It is a biz card, I can’t change them to anything else. That’s simply annoying.
Can’t remember if there is hard inquiry when doing product change
I have been unsuccessful in PC’ing my Citi AAdvantage Gold over the phone. They said they can only PC their accounts that have been opened for at least 12 months, which supports other DPs on this post. Would like to see more DPs on people who were successful in getting Citi to PC a product that had been open less than 12 months. Thanks.
Right, it needs to be opened 12-months. https://www.doctorofcredit.com/best-downgrade-options-rules-for-each-card-issuer-rules/#Citi
I’m in a similar situation, would like to product change Aadvantage plat to a Dividend. My hunch is if you really push it and insist on closing the account, unless they product change it, they may be a way to get them to do it before the 12 month point.
@Dan: Have you had any success with this process? I have called 3x already and same outcome. My only fear with waiting the 12 months is that I may incur the AF on the card (which I’d rather avoid rather than persuade Citi to give me a refund).
Anyone have luck changing a ThankYou card to a Dividend? Tried this a year or so ago and was told it wasn’t possible.
I changed my Citi AA Executive to a Dividend last July. It took a month or so, but it wasn’t an issue.
If you’re an MSer, you’re going to want to get the Dividend before 5% drugstores in Q2!
Love to change my Executive card to a Prestige card, but really want the bonus that comes with it…
Called late last year to change simp to div. they said service was suspended for a few months, call back in November 2015.
Called yesterday to change simp to div. they said simp doesn’t have change options as its their lowest their card. 1000 TY points as apology.
Are there any data points product changing simplicity to anything else? DoubleCash or Dividend would be optional.
Just wanted to add actually it’s not the lowest card, my Citi secured matured into something called Citi Classic. With the same lousy CL and APR (not that the last bit matters, but still). Not a single benefit other than keeping account open longer. I tried PC in Dec and they said they weren’t doing then.
I’m not 100% certain but seem to recall a Citi rep saying they only do product changes after you’ve had the card for a year. Can others corroborate this?
