freemit

The Fine Print

  • Only persons who are 18 years or older are eligible;
  • Only one $10 gift per person;
  • You must create a Freemit account before May 31, 2016;
  • You must provide and comply with all know your customer (KYC) requirements;
  • You must come from an approved country where we offer our services; and
  • You must connect a credit card, debit card, or bank account to Freemit

Our Verdict

Obviously you won’t be able to access/receive the $10 until they actually launch. Freemit is basically a digital wallet application. Users will be able to transfer funds to friends in different currencies with no fees, they will offer a travel debit card with no foreign transaction fees and they will also offer cash pick up ‘with the best possible rates’.

They have raised $156,000 from angel investors. As far as I know they are currently in a closed beta. It looks like an interesting offer and for $10 I’ll happily give them my e-mail address for now.

Dead

Not just the Deal, but the Company.

Too bad, had recently received an email (05/31) they were going to launch with US to India transfer service where the $10 bonus would be credited.

Well, undoubtedly it is a volatile space, and challenging to get a company here off the ground.

Quote from the shutdown email:

“It’s John Biggs, CEO of Freemit. You may have seen that we are shutting down. This is true. We couldn’t get the investment or technical execution we wanted to keep going so we’ve decided to try a different tack. This means we’re closing down the remittance app and it means we may change focus down the line.”
