You can see our intrduction to AmEx Offers here.
The Offer
Receive a $10 statement credit when you make $75 purchase at Whole Foods Market. Receive a $10 statement credit when you make a $50 purchase at JC Penny. These offers are probably available through your AmEx log-in. Use the multi-tab trick to get it on all your cards. The offers are also available via Twitter by tweeting #AmexWholeFoods #AmexJCPenney. You can even do both with one single tweet.
These offers can be great for shopping at these retailers, but they can also be money-makers by purchasing gift cards. Whole Food gift cards have a high resell value of 90-92%. If you go through the Topcashback portal, you can get 92% by selling to Cardpool. This will be a $4 money-maker per registered AmEx card, besides the credit card points that you’ll earn.
JC Penny sells a few third-party gift cards, and you may find a gift card that could be slightly profitable to resell, such as a Subway gift card. You can also try to find a gift card which you would use for personal use. Here are some of the gift cards which they sell, mentioned on this Slickdeals thread: Subway, Starbucks, Outback, iTunes, Barnes & Noble, Olive Gardens.
The Fine Print
The Whole Foods offer expires 9/30/14, and is only available in-store, through the main checkout aisles.
The JC Penny offer expires 9/2/14 and is valid in-store or online. Excludes Paypal transactions.
Our Verdict
These offers are not as valuable as some of the other recent offers, but they could be small money-makers. I saved them on my cards via the log-in and via Twitter. Hopefully, I’ll be passing by a Whole Foods or a JC Penny, and I’ll be able to take advantage of the offers without going much out of my way. I’ll buy $75 Whole Food gift cards, and maybe I’ll try finding some gift cards at JC Penny which are worthwhile to resell.
