Additional Details Regarding Discover Apple Pay 2015 E-Mail

Yesterday Discover sent out an e-mail regarding the 10% back on Apple Pay purchases from 2015 stating that based on an internal review they had decided to award cardholders with an additional cashback bonus related to this promotion. I still had some questions regarding this, so I got in contact with Discover and received the following response:

As the email states, the additional rewards related to Apple Pay were provided after an internal review.

The amounts being awarded vary from cardmember to cardmember, based on purchase history and date of Apple Pay enrollment. Not all Apple Pay transactions were eligible for additional rewards.

If the cardmember was enrolled and eligible for our Discover Match program at the time of purchase, then, yes, their rewards would be matched.

If cardmembers didn’t receive an email/letter, they are not eligible for additional rewards from the Apple Pay promotion.

This clears up some important elements (e.g it will be doubled if eligible for the Discover Match program at the time of purchase). Thanks again to the Discover media team for being so responsive.

Another DP: I received adjustments ONLY on transactions which included other (non-GC) items. Unfortunately, it was only one of five purchases. It was also doubled.

Were you originally denied for $950 of charges on the Discover it? How much did you receive for AP in 2016?

What was their reasoning for giving you more if you received the max before?

I know someone else who got more than the max. He actually went over the 10k limit because he thought they were all disqualified, so he did whatever additional he could via legit purchases. I think when discover fixed things this time around, they didn’t subtract previous legit purchases from the 10k limit. It might be possible some people got the full cash back on nearly 20k (10k gift cards, then another 10k legit purchases when they thought the gift cards were disqualified)

Got $807.92 added to my CB balance this morning!! That was the amount I had been denied for GCs ($504.95×16=8079.20*.10=807.92) Holy shit, I can’t believe it it. It’s Christmas in May.

I called about my 2 cards and will be receiving about $1k total. My wife didn’t receive an e-mail about her card, but called anyways and was told she isn’t going to receive any adjustments. Their reason was because she did not sign up for the promotion. Which is totally false so I told her to forward the e-mail she received where they denied the Apple Pay promo due to gift card purchases. I don’t know how their system would not include her account.

Strangely when I called, the rep told me that I’m enrolled in an Apple Pay Promo for 10% cashback from 05/03-08/01/2017, which I did ask him to confirm twice. It’s weird ’cause I’m pretty sure I didn’t enroll in any sort of promotion at the moment..

I checked again with the online representative and he couldn’t find such promo, so I think they must have coded the additional cashback released to cardholders as some sorts of promotion.

I called last night, I’m getting $403 and change. At 20%, that’s $2000 in VGC, which sounds about right. I already got close to $1000 last year from the purchases before the email. But once reports started coming that people weren’t getting paid, I stopped. I wasn’t going to appeal and fight it like some people did. I never sent in my receipts nor did I email them to refuse doing so.

I got over $1400 and already redeemed it on their site.

Can say this definitely makes me want to keep Discover for the long, long haul.
