Our Verdict

I’m not an expert on all the various MS Office subscription options, but it looks like you can get this subscription for 1 person for $69.99 and for 6 people for $99.99. So if you only need it for 1 person, this is a $20 savings; if you need it for 6 people, it’s a full $50 savings.

From a previous deal, I believe readers were saying it’s somehow possible to add this to an existing subscription by redeeming the key code or something like that.

DP – can add to existing active subscription to extend it.

Has anyone bought this as to use in the future, to extend a currently active subscription when it expires? Just want to make sure that works, as I’m a bit confused by the whole “download” in the product description…

Last time a deal like this came up I had a current subscription and bought 2x years. It did apply them to the end of my account so I’m covered through 2021

Yes. You don’t have to wait to use in the future, you can redeem it immediately and it will extend your expiration date another year. Just go to office.com/setup, sign in to the account you have Office 365 associated with, and follow the prompts.

Be sure to check ebay for keys. You can get a lifetime 365 subscription for $5.

Is there a catch or any reason not to do this? $5 for lifetime is a steal. Assuming you can use any of the Office tools online/offline right?

According to Microsoft forums 365 lifetime subscriptions are a scam. Microsoft doesn’t sell lifetime keys.

The threads there say what receive after buying from ebay is typically an email and password associated with a student account or charity. Although a scam, you will still get 365 access, just that you share with someone else who than would have a lot of access to your documents.

It shows up as $99.99 initially, but once getting to the final card, it shows up as $149.99 again. Anyone able to get the price to show $99.99?

Same thing happened to me. I chatted with Amazon and they instructed me to checkout and that I would receive the correct price and they were right. It showed AFTER the purchase. Weird, but it worked.

Did anyone get this order to go through? When I add it to my shopping cart, it shows up at $99, but then when I actually try to checkout it switches to $149. I’m not ruling out user error…I’ve been staring at that Amazon page for quite some time today.

I got the same thing but it calculated correctly when I actually bought it.

$69 is the personal version. The $99 version is for 6 people in a family. Pretty good deal with a $50 GC coming back…

FYI I added this to an existing subscription.

Sounds like adding it worked fine for you, just extended it a year from your current date of expiration?

365 Home is a different product from the 365 Personal that you linked to in “the true price is $69.99”. The true price of the Home edition is $99.99 but you can find it cheaper at varying times, particularly during the holiday sales. Cheapest I’ve ever paid for Office 365 Home was $65-ish.

The Office 365 Home (standard for $99.99/year) is a license for 6 people/devices – kind of like Spotify Family. The Office 365 Personal (standard for $69.99/year) is for just one person and one device. Slightly different products, so depending on your needs it could just be a $20 value savings or a full $50 value savings.
