Our Verdict
Because these are considered a direct booking you do earn loyalty points, elite night credits and your status is recognized. Recently Marriott has had increased portal rates (e.g 12% with BeFrugal & Ebates). Interesting to see an airline portal offer such a high rate as well. Marriott is trying to put the squeeze on online travel agencies to lower the commission they have to pay now that they own SPG, I’m guessing direct bookings might also be down as a result of the SPG data breach as well.
