American Airlines and Uber have formed a partnership, rather than going into too much depth here are the key points you should know about the new partnership.
- After booking a ticket on aa.com, users will be given the option to remind them to request an Uber (no idea why anybody would need a reminder for this)
- The American Airlines app will also navigate users to the closest Uber pick up point for the following airports:
- Charlotte Douglas International (CLT)
- Philadelphia International (PHL)
- Chicago O’Hare International (ORD)
- Phoenix Sky Harbor International (PHX)
- Dallas/Fort Worth International (DFW)
- San Francisco International (SFO)
- Los Angeles International (LAX)
- San Jose International (SJC)
- New York’s John F. Kennedy International (JFK)
- Ronald Reagan Washington National (DCA)
- New York’s LaGuardia (LGA)
- Users without Uber can use the promo code RIDEAA to get $20 off their first ride (worthless, Chase will give you $30)
- AAdvantage Executive Platinum members who hold that status as of March 1, 2016, will receive a unique code for up to $25 off their next Uber ride – regardless of whether they have used Uber before. These members will receive their unique code in March.
- Barclaycard AAdvantage Aviator MasterCard cardholders will receive an additional 2x miles per $1 spent when they use their card to pay for Uber rides. This will be valid from February 7 through July 31, 2016. Bonus points will be award after the promotion ends. (Why not just get 21.5% off with Capital One)
There are basically two things of interest here, the $25 code for elites and being guided to the pick up point or select airports. I usually just google [airport name] + Uber and somebody has written a guide on how I should request an Uber there so it’s not a huge improvement and I doubt I’d even use it.
I’m also not sure why anybody would need a reminder that they need to request an Uber. When I arrive at an airport I typically don’t just sit around trying to think up an option of how to get where I want to go.
