21.5%+ off Uber with Capital One + 2 Free Rides

The Offer

Capital One and Uber have developed a new partnership that will benefit Capital One customers who have a Quicksilver credit card (previously reviewed here). As a part of this parnership Quicksilver card members will receive 20% off all Uber purchases via a credit card statement. This means card members will receive 1.5% cashback via their Quicksilver card purchases in addition to 20% off Uber fares which is a great discount for any cardholder (Uber and Capital One)

Fine Print

  • Must have a Quicksilver card
  • 2 Free rides of up to $30 each is for NEW customers only
  • New Customers must register by June 30th, 2015 for 2 Free rides
    • Use Promo code CAPITALONE
    • Valid for ALL CapitalOne credit card and debit cardholders including 360 accounts
  • Free rides valid till June 30, 2016
  • Free rides not vaild on UberTAXI
  • 20% discount valid through April 2016

The Verdict

We have seen Uber make several partnerships with major card companies, before (American Express Membership Rewards and Starwood). But a 21%+ discount is a great deal for anyone who uses Uber on a frequent basis.  I personally would never sign up for the Quicksilver card directly (no signup bonus and only 1.5x cash back), but if I had another Capital One credit card that I applied for with a sign up bonus lying around in a sock drawer, I would definitely weigh product changing to the Quicksilver card for this discount for the next year.

Another thing to keep in mind is there are some advantages to having and applying for a Capital One card as mentioned here and in our newsletter.

Exactly what I did; had a VentureOne that I keep as I’ve had it for 15 years so I just called and had it moved to QuickSilver. No hard pull, same credit line, I asked if I should wait for the Uber promo to apply to the VentureOne and she said most likely it will just be for the QuickSilver.

Wow. I spend probably around $4K per year on Uber. I guess I have to think about whether saving $800 is worth the three credit pulls. If it were permanent instead of a one-year thing I’d do it for sure.

You don’t have any other Capital One cards you can product change from? I wonder how quickly you can product change, might be worth getting the venture 40k offer and then doing a PC to the quicksilver. Or you could just do two apps in one day and they should combine.

Yeah unfortunately no existing Cap One cards. I suppose it could be worth trying to get the Venture and the Quicksilver in one go.

Thanks for the post. Just called capital one to upgrade my Platinum to Quicksilver One. Worked so smoothly that I am even a little surprised because I never used my Platinum even once XD. Will certainly use it more with the Uber benefit!

I got this offer on my platinum card.

It looks like it’s just an offer for two free rides but no 20% off.

[…] Also remember that there is a Capital One has an ongoing promotion that if you pay for your Uber rides with your QuickSilver or QuickSilverOne card you’ll get a 20% discount on the fare. No promo code needed; just pay with one of those cards and the 20% will come off the bill. We wrote more about this here. […]
