Direct Link to offer

American Airlines shopping portal has a Back to School shopping portal bonus:

  • Get 500 bonus miles when you spend $150 in shopping through the portal.
  • Get 1,500 bonus miles when you spend $350 in shopping through the portal.

The Fine Print

  • Valid 8/9/18 through 8/19/18 at 11:59:59 pm ET.
  • Bonus miles are in addition to the standard AAdvantage miles earned from shopping online through the AAdvantage mall.
  • This one-time bonus award will be determined based on Member’s cumulative qualifying purchases made during the Bonus Period using one of the following tiers: Tier 1 bonus: 500 miles for qualifying purchases of at least $150; or Tier 2 bonus: 1,500 miles for qualifying purchases of at least $350 or more.
  • “Qualifying purchases” do not include returns, cancellations, shipping and handling, taxes, gift card or other cash equivalent purchases, and certain products that are not eligible for bonus miles.
  • Please allow up to 10 weeks after the Bonus Period for bonus miles to post to your AAdvantage eShoppingSM account.

Our Verdict

It’s interesting: AA gave a Back to School portal bonus back a few weeks ago, then a bit later the other portals followed (Southwest, United, Alaska – these are still available). Now American is coming with Back to School take 2.

I wouldn’t trust American Airlines portal. I ordered 1100 dollars worth of tires using their portal and I was supposed to get 5x points for 5500 miles and didn’t get the miles. I even sent them the receipt and they still refused. Use Southwest instead as they don’t cheat you out of miles.

I Agree. I signed up for the economist to get 1200 bonus points. They retracted it a month later. Emailed their customer care and they asked for the receipt. I sent it to them two weeks ago. Still no response.

I think most of these portals are run by the same company… I think only SW and HI are run by someone else.

Pretty sure sw is linked in with aa, United and Alaska. What’s good about these is your miles usually are usable within a few days but ymmv

BA Avios and Hawaii seem operates on independent systems

Never have used hotel ones. Wouldn’t It be nice if Hyatt had a portal??

it’s the same backend between AA & SW so if you have trouble with one you will probably have trouble with the other.
