American Airlines Web Special: Transcon In Business Class From 15,000 Miles One Way

The Offer

  • American Airlines has a new web special, this time offering transcon flights in business class from 15,000 miles.

Our Verdict

Normally these would cost 25,000 miles (or 32,500 if lie flat) so this is a nice saving. Availability is now through April 2020. Looks like there is lots of city pairings that will work:

  • West coast: LAX/SAN/SFO/SEA/PHX
  • East coast: ISP/EWR/JFK/PHL/DCA/MIA

FWIW, need LAX-MIA but see only long connections via DFW / BNA(!?!?) at 32k-34k, and zero lie-flats March-April, even though I know there’s 777s btw LAX-MIA. Oh well.

I can’t find any lie flat seats at 15K from JFK > LAX or vice-versa. And the few routes that exist all have a stopover, FWIW.

Nothing available at that price on the WAS to SEA pairings…

Folks complain about domestic First.. It’s often worthwhile just for the free checked bags, seat selection, and Admirals access.

You don’t get Admirals access for domestic First. Only domestic routes with club access are Biz or higher in premium transcon.

Previous: selling 100k when you have 1M or more

Now: selling $1 but you are broke

Just so ironic to me. ( One of my friends is cancelled and lost over 200k AA miles. Can’t say I’m as sad as I would be if he’s actually robbed of something.

The calendar view (screenshot on there) doesn’t really show the true availability. The lie-flat ones (on JFK-SFO/LAX non-stop A321T) shows some lower ones like 21k for Business/First but when clicking into there there’s none. The Only “Web Special” I saw is 60k for Business class..

Is this a mistake/already dead (at least for lie flat routes)? AA rarely makes transcon premium seats available at 32.5k. I know they’re experimenting with the web specials, but this would seem an odd one given demand and upgrade competition. In any case, when I look at the calendar I see TONS of dates that show 25k availability when I use the non-stop filter (looking at JFK-LAX rt), but when I click on any of them, non-stops either don’t show up at all or are priced at their typical inflated 6-figure mileage rates.

Same here. Couldn’t find anything lie flat that’s actually 25k

Need to book EWR TO PHX for late April. Not seeing anything close to 15k. Is there a special way to search for it. Help please.

I am looking for the same route in March, no luck for me either.

I am eyeing R/T 1 stop fares for XNA/MAD for 34K in late Sept/early Oct. Hell, I could see the Cherry Blossoms in Tokyo for 55k in early April. There are some fantastic opportunities for those of us that aren’t hard core points hounds and have flexibility on travel dates.

Now that people have been robbed of their miles – all of a sudden – domestic availability shows up.

Quite funny to see thieves complain about getting “robbed” of their stolen goods.

Yesterday I used a Bed bath and Beyond coupon that my neighbor gave me. It even had his address on it. I should turn myself in before the cavalry arrives.
