Update: This is the standard default image. American Express is still up to something, but this just isn’t part of that something. We will know more next week.
Earlier today some American Express app users saw a new Platinum card design when logged in (see below).
The app is now showing the existing design again. The card also briefly disappeared from the American Express website for new applications. We’ve been hearing growing rumblings that something big is coming from American Express, we haven’t been able to nail down any specifics as of yet but I wouldn’t be surprised if the Platinum is involved somehow. American Express already made significant changes to the Platinum card in early 2017Â and a Saks credit in June 2018. Competitor Citi recently announced changes to the Citi Prestige card and Chase has been slowly cutting benefits on the Chase Sapphire Reserve.
