I wanted until June 30 (today) to transfer and it’s gone! Fuck Alaska and their devaluation of Hawaiian awards

This headline screwed me, turns out AMEX turned off the transfer on June 29. My fault for waiting but I thought I could still get it in since everyone was reporting June 30

I am really torn on what to do here. I am sitting at 300k MR and am flush with UR, so I am little more stingy with MR. That being said, I fly AA a ton domestically and the value of AS is great for me.

I moved another 260k of MR, leaving me with 75k (just in case) and got both HA cards, so now have around 420k of AS miles. For my use case, ANA isn’t appealing to me as I have no plans to travel to Japan and I have 2 kids – so most of MR I can cover with UR. I try to stretch my miles out and fly economy to Europe (it sucks, yes) rather than burning huge amounts of miles for a 5 year old. Also, I typically fly out of CLT, so heavy AA usage. Even with a devluation, I am fairly certain I will use the AS miles more efficiently (assuming availibility doesnt disappear, in which case, I’m screwed).

Why are people so keen on converting MR to Alaska miles? Alaska miles are typically valued at 1.2/1.3 cpp. Isn’t MR more valuable?

Usually for accessing partners like JAL that you can’t with other programs

I assume when they move the points over from Hawaiian to Alaska they will depreciate the awards again

Good luck with that. There is a 0.0000001% chance of that happening.

Just moved 526,000 amex points to Hawaiian. Went instant. When moving for Hawaiian to Alaska you can only do it in 500,000 max increments. The first 500k went instant. Waiting on the 2nd 26k
