Apparently, Amex also realized that the Plenti card sucks. They’ve now made it a more competitive card.

Category Bonus
Previously, this card earned a flat 1 point on all purchases, which is worth 1¢ at partner locations like Exxon, ATT, Macy’s, etc. They’ve now added a 3x category and a 2x category.
- Earn 3 Plenti points per dollar at US supermarkets, up to $6,000 total per calendar year. Then 1 point per dollar.
- Earn 2 Plenti points per dollar at US restaurants with no limit.
Signup Bonus
AT launch, they offered a 2,500 point bonus, or $25, after spending $250 within 3 months. They’ve now upped the bonus to 5,000 points, or $50, after spending $250 within 3 months.
Final Thoughts
This card is pretty similar now to the Blue Cash card, the difference being that the Blue Cash offers 2% on gas and the Plenti offers 2x on restaurants.Technically, this card can be better for someone who eats out a lot, but we assume most people aren’t getting either card for the 2% category since you can always get 2% everywhere with a straight 2% cashback card. Looking at it that way, the Blue Cash is better since it gives you straight cashback without the hassle of having to redeem the points for credit at one of the participating stores.
The main reason I can see for someone to get the Plenti card is just as an added no-annual-fee Amex card so as to take part in lucrative Amex Offers. Other options for no-annual-fee cards include the Blue Cash and the Everyday card.
