Our Verdict
This is a regular offer and one of the best offered for REDcard, previous offers can be viewed here. Sometimes we see $50 off, but that requires $100 in spend. Sometimes you can also get $4 via Swagbucks as well but not currently available. There is no hard pull for the debit card or reloadable card.
It seems Target now allows opening the card again every 180 days. If you closed out an old card and it’s been more than 180 days since opening the previous card, they should approve you for a new one. (Previously it was every 90 days.)
I have a Target credit card. I will close it in 2 months. How long after closing do I have to wait to apply for a Target debit card and get the $50 in Target Circle Rewards signup bonus?
I’ve never held the Target Credit Card, but the Reloadable, Debit, and Credit Card are all separate offers, and you should be able to get the other rewards bonuses, regardless if you close the Target CC or not.

It looks reloadable card is not churnable now. Opened on 4/16 and made $50 purchase on 5/9. No credit as of today.
Pretty sure the only people able to churn the Reloadable had previously done the $40 offer. If they did a $50 version before, the bonus doesn’t payout. Or, was your prior Reloadable bonus $40?
I have done $50 reloadable before.
Does this new offer require a full $50 purchase in one transaction?
Is tax included in this, or does it have to be pre-tax price?
Does the 5% circle discount & other circle discounts count for the purchase price?
Assuming you are speaking of the debit offer… Doesn’t require it to be one transaction, but why drag it out?.
I decided to dig up my trip details for my first “$50 debit purchase”…
Original DP here: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/apply-for-a-new-target-redcard-debit-credit-and-get-40-off-40-shopping-trip-11-1-12-26/#comment-2045804
My trip:
Subtotal $66.03 (Included my “free” $15 Target gift card)
Discounts -$16.81 (this takes off my free GC & Target 5% discount listed below)
$15 Target GiftCard with $50 select household essentials -$15.00
Target Circle Card 5% -$1.81
Tax $2.05
Total $51.27 (This was the amount spent on the Target debit card)
I spent less than $50 in merchandise overall, when not adding in tax, and it appears the Target Circle 5% was not a penalty either. Got handed a $15 gift card to spend later.
So, what that says to me is your total with tax needs to be $50+. Or, that $15 gift card that ended up being free helped push me over…. even though per terms, gift cards do not count. Not sure which is true. Personally, I think Target GC’s do count.
Detailed DP’s welcome to figure out the fine details.

Did anyone spend $50 with the Circle Card to get the Circle Rewards, buy stuff with the $50 Circle rewards and, after that, try to return the original items bought with the Circle Card?
I wonder if it will track so that the original items may not be fully refunded (or possibly result in a negative Circle Reward balance)?
An alternative is to have “lost the receipt”, but I think that will just result in a Gift Card.
To reply to my own post:
“If you return an item that was part of a purchase in which you redeemed Target Circle Rewards, the amount of your redeemed Target Circle Rewards will be credited to your Target Circle Rewards balance (up to the value of the returned item), and any remaining refund amount will be refunded according to Target’s return policy. If items that earned Target Circle Rewards are returned, the associated Target Circle Rewards may be removed from your Target Circle Rewards balance. Target reserves the right to take your Target Circle Rewards to a negative balance (i.e., a balance in your account of less than zero Target Circle Rewards). In such event you will not have redeemable Target Circle Rewards until the balance of Target Circle Rewards in your account is greater than zero. “
Thus, the reward balance may go negative if you return items from the original purchase.
See here: https://www.target.com/c/terms-conditions/-/N-4sr7l (search for the word “negative”)
Arghhh.. I should have read the T&C for the $50 spend requirement to get the $50 Circle Rewards.
I bought $50 in Gift Cards, but Gift cards are excluded from the offer. Now I have to spend another $50 to get the $50 Circle Rewards :-(.
This was the last time we got the Circle Cards.
Did you buy target gift cards or other gift cards?
I bought Target Gift cards.
Since the reloadable offer says “Limit one (1) acquisition credit per guest in their lifetime”, I guess I’ll keep it open. Can I leave it with a $0 balance? I didn’t see any terms about minimum balances.
Yes, the Reloadable can be left with $0 balance and shouldn’t auto-close.
Target Relodable.
P1 $50+ transaction on 2nd April
P2 $50+ transaction on 15th April.
Still both did not recieve the $50 bonus.
Same here.
Tried the reloadable card, previous debit card holder (just canceled a week or two ago):
5/2 DD of $55
5/3 Target purchase of $55
Haven’t received the $50 bonus yet but will update if/when I do
It’s two separate products, so you will be fine. Just give it some more time.
It did eventually post, thank you!
I received the new debit card but there is no mention about the $50 Circle off after spending $50 with the card. Is there supposed to be a coupon coming with the card?
No. It’s shows up in your Target Circle account now. Nothing about it is mailed with the card. I believe it in your “wallet” in the app.
Thanks, I just found it after logging in. I was about to post an answer to myself when I saw your post :-).
Yes, and that’s where you will check to see if you have earned your $50 in rewards.
Can someone confirm this for me.
I called to cancel/ close my Redcard debit card on March 24th of this year. Was going to apply for another one but when I checked online, my card still shows apparently active and still linked to my bank account (didn’t see a way to delete it, only change it to another one).
I called their support line and he said that he shows the account as closed even though it might still show online as active, that if I tried to use it, it wouldn’t work.
Is this how it works when the card is cancelled? This is my first time closing a Redcard and attempting to open another so this is new to me.
Thanks
Came here looking for the same kind of info as I’m in the same situation. Was just with support for over 20 minutes just for them to say “it’s already closed, we can’t do anything else.” Nice that target has what bank account your account was linked to just sitting around on their database waiting for their next data breach.
For future readers one thing that may help the system process it as closed is to completely delete the card from your Target account. I had a similar issue where the card customer service kept saying my account was closed, but it kept showing up in my target account. Removing it allowed me the option to apply for a new card again the next day.
I couldn’t find how to delete the card, but after searching, using the app, I do see it in My Account (under the gear) and was able to delete the card. I hope this takes care of things.
