Our Verdict

This is a regular offer and one of the best offered for REDcard, previous offers can be viewed here. Sometimes we see $50 off, but that requires $100 in spend. Sometimes you can also get $4 via Swagbucks as well but not currently available. There is no hard pull for the debit card.

How do you double dip this coupon? Wait until the Red card arrives in the mail with coupon in it, then use the coupon with an online order? Then use the coupon again in-store?

Beth

I used the coupon for an online pick up order first, picked up the order, and then went into the store and used it again at self check out.

If I used the 40 off 40 coupon and brought a total of 50 dollars, will I get the full refund amount of 10 dollars if I return two items back into debit card? One item being 40 dollars, the other twos 5 dollars each.

No, the coupon value gets distributed across all the items. With this coupon, it’s best to only buy items you know you want to keep.

8/2 – opened debit
Used coupon and red card a few times
11/8 – closed account over phone. Logged in and got a pop up saying it was closed

Benson Chambers did you use old sign-in information or create all new?

I don’t believe you create login information when you register. I created a PIN, but following the steps did not require creating a login.

If I applied and was approved in August and never activated my card, do I have to close it before I apply for a new one?

Benson Chambers
Benson Chambers

Yes, this offer is valid for new accounts. If your debit card is open, then you cannot open a new account and thus you will not be able to qualify for the promotion.

Applied again today, Nov 8, 2021. Approved.
~90 days since last open, >48 hours after close.

Closed debit card on Tuesday, waited the appropriate 48 hours and applied on Friday. Got the dreaded “You should receive a response by mail within 7–10 business days”.

Most likely a rejection I think. I did this deal a few times over now and never had a problem. Maybe Target stepped up their game now?

normally you need to wait 90 days no?

Steve

I think someone said it was 90 days from the account opening date.

I got the 7 to 10 business days message as well. It had only been around 60 days since last applying for one. Did not realize the 90 day rule.

Anyone else get SSN is already attached to an existing target debit card account letter even though all accounts are closed?

P1 & P2 redcard debit accounts were closed in September and when we applied in September, we got “Thank you for applying. Your application is being reviewed. You should receive a response by mail within 7–10 business days.” message and P1 got “Checking account is already attached to an existing Target Debit Card account” and P2 got “SSN already attached to an existing target debit card account.”

We applied for this new promotion again on 10/31 and P1 got instantly approved but P2 got the same 7-10 business days message and probably the same SSN tied to existing target debit account letter. I confirmed with Target customer support rep that all accounts that P2 opened were closed. P2 opened and closed Target debit 5 times before.

Does Target have a blacklist with SSN?

Once or twice i had a Target rep close my card, only to find out they didn’t “really” close it out. More than likely, that is what is happening with you. I would call and request to close it again. Alternatively, try to use your debit card for a small purchase and see if it goes through. If it does, they didnt close it out.

I called Target and a customer support rep confirmed that all accounts were closed. I could tell that they were closed when P2 logged in at https://rcam.target.com/#/

We haven’t received the letter from Target yet but if it’s the same “SSN already attached to an existing target debit card account.”, I’ll call them and see what’s going on.

Mark S

I received the same “SSN already attached to an existing target debit card account.” letter today. Here’s my timeline:

9/14 – Applied and approved
9/22 – Called and cancelled
10/7 – Called and confirmed that card was indeed closed
11/2 – Applied again. Received 7-10 days
11/8 – Received letter stating “SSN already attached to an existing target debit card account.”

Just tried to place an order with my old card (the one that should be closed) and it won’t go through. So it appears to be closed as expected. Not sure why Target is saying otherwise.

Maybe there is some truth to that 90 day cool-down between approvals…? But it looks like some data points refute that. YMMV
