Bank of America Air France/KLM FlyingBlue Credit Card 70,000 Miles Signup Bonus + 100 XP Bonus

Update 3/5/25: Available again, this time the dummy booking is: 60k + $100 SC + 100XP

The Offer

Direct link to offer (this is the public link, see below for additional option with $100 statement credit)

  • Bank of America is offering a sign up bonus on the AirFrance/KLM FlyingBlue credit card of 70,000 miles after $2,000 $3,000 in spend within the first 90 days from account opening.
  • You’ll also get a bonus of 40 XP after meeting the minimum spend. That’s on top of the standard 60 XP awarded upon approval. Total 100 XP.
  • Reports are that if you do a dummy booking, you’ll get shown an offer for an additional $100 statement credit signup bonus, on top of the 70,000 and 40 XP. Some got the offer to show when NOT logged into their account and doing a cash booking. Dummy booking showing $150 Statement Credit + 60,000 Bonus Miles + 100 XP this time so not as good as the 70k + $100 offer.

Card Details

  • Annual fee of $89
  • Card earns at the following rates:
    • 3x miles per $1 spent on AirFrance/KLM and Skyteam members
    • 1.5x miles per $1 spent on all other purchases
  • 60 XP (Experience Points) upon approval
  • 5,000 anniversary bonus miles when you spend at least $50 in your previous card member year
  • 20 XP (Experience Points) on card anniversary and an additional 40 XP if you spend $15,000 or more in your previous card member year
  • No foreign transaction fees

Our Verdict

Previous best bonus on this card was 50,000 miles + $150. This 70,000 mile offer is probably more attractive given the 20k additional miles + 40 XP additional bonus. And utilizing the dummy booking trick to get the $100 statement credit makes this offer the best ever.

If you want to apply for this card I’d recommend reading our post with all the things you should know about Bank of America credit cards first. We’ll add this to our List of Best Current Credit Card Signup Bonuses.

applied to the card and got approved but on my welcome package there was nothing on the bonus. It only says earn 3 miles per 1$ spent on qualifiying purchase made directly with air france…., Earn 1.5 miles per 1$ spent on all other purchases, get 60 xp experience point upon approval. Should I be worried? I previously had the card

Has anyone successfully downgrade or product change this card recently? I called the customer service and told that the only option is to close the card.

Yes it will, but if you got your miles from transfers from the banks programs (Chase, AMex) you can just transfer another 1K points to AF/KLM and this will extend your miles.

If your miles are earned from flying or from the same card in the past, then transferring points will not help, but getting this card will.

Consider creating the Family Pool (with somebody else being the pool owner), and transferring all your miles to that person, the points should arrive to your P2 with brand new 2 year expiration date, and it will be easy to extend in the future by transferring 1K points to that person’s account.

XP is not the miles you would use to book an award ticket. It is more like the way to your status.

Don’t bother and waste a 5/24 slot. Flying Blue killed literally all of the J Saver awards to CDG and AMS from the US. Nothing available for the next year. I think OMAAT found a a handful of seats in the next year, with 0 from JFK, ORD, BOS, IAD, etc in the next 12 months.

Chuck and  William Charles , please feel free to reference this comment, as I truly believe people need to understand Air France / KLM miles expiration rules, as getting this card may hurt them under some circumstances. Air France / KLM have 2 types of miles. Let’s call them 2 buckets of miles. Bucket 1 = Miles you earn by crediting flights to your Flying Blue account, this includes miles you earn if you fly partner carriers. The miles you earn by your credit card spend also fall into this bucket. Bucket 2 = Miles you transfer to your Flying Blue account. This includes all transfer partners like Chase/Amex/Cap1/Citi, and also includes transferring miles from your Flying Blue family Each bucket has its own 2 year expiration date. Expiration date in each bucket is treated separately and can be extended by any activity in THAT bucket only! …. and that would be OK, but … any activity in Bucket 1 consolidates all your miles to the Bucket 1 (essentially it moves all your miles from the Bucket 2 to the Bucket 1). Why is this a (potential) problem? If you have any significant balance of miles in your Flying Blue account (i.e. previously transferred to Flying Blue), as soon as you get the card and earn anything with it, all your miles will move to Bucket 1 and stay there until you use them up or until they expire. It is not a problem, if you are planning keeping this Flying Blue card forever.. but.. if you are planning to close it in 1 year, you could be in an interesting situation. Now all of the sudden you have bunch of miles (Bucket 1), which will expire in 2 years, and which you cannot extend by transferring points from Chase/Amex/etc… While you had the card, all your miles were moved from Bucket 2 to Bucket 1, and now you are stuck in a vicious circle – you need to keep the card until you use them all up. Flying on a paid ticket is not a problem – credit your flights to one of the partners instead of Flying Blue, but with the credit card – you can do nothing to avoid moving all your miles to Bucket 1. I am not saying do not apply for this card, but I am saying understand that it may not be easy to get rid of it without risking to loose your miles if you have not used them all in 2 years after the card is cancelled. P.S. I think there is a trick though to get around this restriction, I have not tested it yet, as I have no immediate need for this test now (still have the card), and still have time to use them. But I think it will work based on what I have seen. AF allows you to create a family pool with 1 adult member, and allows the pool owner to transfer all miles from… Read more »

One DP from myself.. donating miles does not extend any expiration date. So do not do that (unless you want to donate).

Probably could have ready the T&C, but testing it was quicker.
Good luck.

Thank you for the details. What would happen if you used the credit card miles in Bucket 2 for a ticket? Would they then move the remaining Bucket 2 miles into Bucket 1?

Also, are you saying keeping the AF card will prevent both buckets from expiring?

AF/KLM automatically uses miles whichever expire earlier. I did not try that specifically (when I had 2 buckets), so I cannot tell if the purchase of a ticket would combine miles into Bucket 1, but I do not think it would.

Idea: if you want to use up your miles from Bucket 1, even if Bucket 2 miles expire earlier, you can transfer 1K from Chase/Amex/Cap1/Citi, and this will extend Bucket 2 miles to Now + 2 years, making Bucket 1 miles expire earlier… and they will be used.

… but keep in mind, that would only make sense if you have already closed your BofA card, and not planning any future miles deposits from your CC. If your card is still open, you will receive 5K miles on your next anniversary anyway, or if you make any purchase that would generate some CC miles activity, and all your miles will be moved to Bucket 1 at that point anyway. So.. bothering with emptying your Bucket 1 makes sense only if you closed your card, and just want to avoid loosing your Bucket 1 miles. While you have the card – no point worrying about that.

Good luck.

Yes. I got a second one last year (it had been a couple years since I opened my last one). I received the 70k SUB again, but not the XPs.

I have two cards. The most recent one opened in December 2024 and the initial card opened sometime in September/October 2023 that has since been cancelled. This is the best offer so far, but unsure if I want to spend one of my Chase 5/24 slots for it.
