Bank of America Sends Out Survey Regarding Two Possible New Spirit Credit Cards

Bank of America has sent out a survey regarding two possible new Spirit cards. The two cards talked about are:

  • No annual fee card
    • 10,000 bonus points after $500 in spend
    • Card earns at the following rates:
      • 2x points per $1 spent on Spirit purchase
      • 1x point per $1 spent on all other purchases
    • 5,000 annual bonus points, awarded each anniversary after $10,000 in annual spend
    • 25% rebate on inflight food and drink purchases
    • Zone 2 priority boarding on all flights
    • No points expiration as long as your account is open
    • No foreign transaction fees
    • Pool you points with friends or family
  • $79 annual fee card
    • 40,000 bonus points plus a $100 companion flight voucher after making at least $1,000 in purchases within 90 days
    • Card earns at the following rates:
      • 3x points per $1 spent on Spirit purchase
      • 2x points per $1 spent on dining and grocery
      • 1x point per $1 spent on all other purchases
    • $100 annual companion flight voucher awarded each anniversary after $10,000 in annual spend
    • 25% rebate on inflight food and drink purchases
    • Zone 2 priority boarding on all flights
    • No redemption fees for cardholders
    • No points expiration as long as your account is open
    • No foreign transaction fees
    • Pool you points with friends or family
    • Earn tier 1 loyalty status with $20,000 annual spend; Earn tier 2 loyalty status with $50,000 annual spend

Currently Bank of America offers a card with a $59 annual fee, I suspect that would be discontinued/replaced with the $79 annual fee card. I guess it could be worth keeping the no annual fee card long term due to the no annual fee and the fact that points don’t expire as long as it’s open.

I used my husband’s Spirit points for 2 ow tickets. I bought ow returns on Alaska if I remember correctly. The fees on the ‘free’ Spirits award tickets were about the same as my paid tickets. My conclusion is Spirit points are basically worthless.

I don’t see why the hate with Spirit unless you never been on one. No frills flight with cheap people and no food/drink. It works for red eye flights for me. I just paid $309 for a RT ticket to Costa Rica from MSP and under $400 with a bag! Plus arrived a hour and a half before my flight left with 30 people in front of me to check bags and check in. CSR shuffled everyone in our flight over to the expedited line and got my bag checked in 15 min!

If spirit gave me free flights for life I’d pay to fly elsewhere. Lol

Would never fly Spirit even if it’s free.

Monica why? did u previously have bad experience? i flew them twice last yr to LAS & LAX from TX that had no issue whatsoever for about $35 r/t w/o bag

have about 25k pts & agree with peter that can’t find a good use for it; 1 time found a 2.5k pts redemption from TX to CUN, but that is a rarity

BOA should drop them. Spirit should be with a bank like Synchrony or Comenity. BOA has more integrity than this. Smh

Why does anyone fly Spirit?

If you’re not flying with a carry on, are going short haul and don’t care where you sit, it’s fine. Big Front Seat is also great. I’ve flown on them and when expectations are low, it’s fine. The planes are also somewhat new. They are on par with AA in terms of cabin experience.

I agree, I gotten tickets from ORD-PTY for $46 dollars. Usually one way tickets are at least $500ish. And use miles to fly back.

i live in northern vermont. they fly out of plattsburgh ny, a pretty close distance. I can fly non stop to florida for $150 round trip with the right flight, about half of what I can with the big carriers.

their planes are relatively new, you know what you get with them.

Why would someone not fly spirit?

They’re often half or even less than the main carriers. With almost everyone and basic economy it’s practically the same thing.

Spirit is my favorite airline…in terms of price…which is 90% what I care about. Also way better than United basic economy, who doesn’t let you get a boarding pass online.

i have a bunch of spirit points that I haven’t been able to use for a variety of reasons and i have the $59 AF credit card which i’m about to abandon rather than pay another fee to keep the points alive that I haven’t figured out how to use yet. spirit points are hard to use and hard to keep active at this point.

I take surveys from Miles for Thoughts to keep my miles active without having to pay any fees.

To keep them active, take one 10 minute survey every quarter on milesforthoughts.com

that’s true, but being a card holder also gets you access to some really low fares (which i didn’t mention in my original post, my bad). flights range from 2500 to 12500 with the card, 10,000 to 20,000 without it. I have 25,000 or so miles, was hoping to take advantage of the really-low rates with card, but have failed to do so.

2500 fares are a scam. Hardly available and have insane close in fees that exceed actual cost of the flight.
