Our Verdict
We recently had on-and-off a 60,000 offer with annual fee waived. This 70,000 offer without the fee waiver will be a better deal for some people. This is probably the best offer on a card with no minimum spend.
We’ll be adding it to our best credit card bonus list. Read through these things you should know about Barclaycard credit cards before asking any basic questions in the comments.
New link appears to be dead
Applied/approved early July.
Fulfilled requirements.
70k Aadvantage credited today 8/17/23.
The current in flight offer is 50,000 miles and no AF in the first year. There also appears to be lifetime language. Inflight offer also awards an additional 500 miles.
I applied, it went to review, I missed the phone call from Barclays a week later while at work and couldn’t get to a phone agent who could tell me anything in follow up attempts. About 4 hours later got an email notice of the card approval for $1K limit (lol). Was 4/24 with 820 credit score and already have Barclays View old Uber card from years ago but I literally applied for the Hilton Surpass card day before and AMEX unexpectedly pulled Transunion. So I don’t think they loved seeing another inquiry from the past week.
Here’s my timeline in case this offer comes back in the future: I applied on 6/5 with instant approval, received the card 6/12, AF was charged 6/30, made my first purchase on 7/1 and made an early payment. It showed that I met the SUB requirements and received the 70k miles, but I wasn’t able to actually access them until my statement closed on 7/19
Update on this shitty bank.
I processed the application, they sent a letter to ask proof of ssn, licence and utility bill. I sent the documents once I got their letter and 2 weeks later, they sent another letter asking the same documents. I called and they sent that they received the 6 different papers but one is bad quality and we don’t see clearly my name. On the phone she also said that now the welcome bonus offer is expired and they can’t give any bonus even if I send again my ID.
First time I am asked to send documents and I had maybe 20 different credit cards in the last 5 years.
Shaddy bank.
Lost of time.
Warning to churners!
Even though the offer is dead still want to provide some data points to the community. I opened this card with this offer for P1, P2 and P3. P1 and P2 had this card previously, closed in late 2019 so it has been almost 4 years since. P1 and P3 cards opened successfully and have the 70k offer called out in Rewards tab of the site. P2 card opened successfully as well but the site does not show the offer. I called in to verify why and was told that this offer is available to people who haven’t held the card in the past and P2 had it back in 2019. Unfortunately the fine print of the offer does in fact state:
“From time to time, we may offer bonuses of AAdvantage® miles or other incentives to new American Airlines
AAdvantage® Aviator® Red Mastercard cardmembers in connection with an application for a new card
account. These bonuses and/or incentives are intended for applicants who are not and have not previously
been American Airlines AAdvantage® Aviator® Red Mastercard cardmembers. You understand and agree that
you may no longer be eligible for any bonuses and/or incentives in connection with a new American Airlines
AAdvantage® Aviator® Red Mastercard account after this Card Account is opened. If you receive a bonus or
incentive for which you are not eligible due to your status as a current or former American Airlines
AAdvantage® Aviator® Red Mastercard cardmember, we may revoke the bonus or incentive, or reduce your
AAdvantage® miles by the amount of the bonus or incentive, or charge your Card Account for the fair value of
the bonus or incentive, in our sole discretion.”
In other words, some blog commenters are mentioning this “24 month” rule which isn’t backed up by the fine print and therefore I can’t refute customer service with it. I’m not sure if this “24 months” rule is misinformation or outdated information. I am planning to call back in tomorrow to see if a different agent gives me a different outcome, and if it doesn’t work out, I will ask to close the card so I’m not paying an annual fee for a useless card. But YMMV and caveat emptor given my experience above. The claw back language in the fine print is also concerning and something to think about. Feel free to interpret the words and facts however you wish.
I wonder if this is my problem as well. I opened the card in June. Made some purchases and paid them off along with the annual fee in mid July. The statement closed about a week ago and still no points. I also had a card closed in late 2019.
Check your Rewards & Benefits tab > Rewards activity page after logging in to your account. You’ll see under the Current benefits section the 70k points offer mentioned along with the requirements and status whether or not you’ve met them.
I called again just now and the CSR I spoke to put me on hold for several minutes and came back to say that the offer is indeed attached to my account and I should not worry about what it says in the Rewards page. Based on this answer and the contradictory one from last week I can’t count on the info from the CSRs and I’m going to send a secure message through the site to get written confirmation one way or another. I suggest you do the same!
Oh good looking out. I didn’t know that page existed but I do see that it says completed and there’s a check mark besides both activities. I was really hoping the first agent you talked to was just talking out of their ass and it sounds like maybe so
Update on this. Second agent said my account qualified and not to worry about the offer not showing up in the Reward activity page. That made me realize I needed to get an answer in writing especially as two agents had contradictory responses. So I submitted the secure message and received back a response also confirming that the account qualified for the bonus also. Then a couple days later, I checked and the offer showed up in the Rewards activity page! I’m not sure if that happened because of my reaching out via messaging or if there was just some delay, but it’s been over three weeks since I recieved the card and the other two cards didn’t have this delay. Nonetheless, everything worked out and this story ends as a standard reminder for folks to just double check everything especially if they had this card previously.
Did you get your points yet? I’m still waiting and it’s coming up on 6 weeks.
Update: I got the points a couple days after my second statement closed.
This offer is H-I-S-T-O-R-Y. Sorry, y’all
Yes, that is the exact statement that comes up over and over across multiple days:
“We apologize for the inconvenience, but our website is experiencing technical issues.
Please contact us at 1-866-371-0107 or try again later.”
It still doesn’t work later!!
Is this related to the state we live in?
Have tried multiple times as well. I am in CA.
