Update 1/14/26: See new card review here
Update 12/27/25: New cards will be revealed on January 14th, 2026 and “preorder” will open then. You’ll be able to seamlessly upgrade to the new cards. (Some rumored upcoming changes are discussed in this post.)
Points On Mortgages
Bilt announced that soon their Bilt cardholders will be able to earn points on mortgage payments to any mortgage provider. This is part of the upcoming ‘Bilt Card 2.0’ launch and will launch on February 7, 2026.
This follows the announcement in July that Bilt is shifting issuers from Wells Fargo to Cardless and launching three card versions:
- No annual fee
- $95 annual fee
- $495 annual fee
Card Transition Details
Key points announced today:
- The new card launches on Feb 7, 2026.
- Existing cardholders will be able to select one of the three card options in early January 2026. There is no hard or soft credit pull when you switch over to one of the new card versions (and no need to thaw your credit reports).
- You card number will remain the same as it transitions to Cardless. Your autopay and subscriptions will remain seamlessly. Your digital wallets will remain saved seamlessly. Continue using your card as usual. Your Bilt points remain intact through the transition.
- After the new launch in February, points will be earned on mortgage payments too. Previously only rent payments earned points.
- Your old Bilt card (issued by Wells Fargo) will automatically turn into a Wells Fargo Autograph card which you can keep or close. You choose whether to also get the new Bilt card.
- Bilt card applications will not be available after midday today, 11/5/25, until the new launch on 2/7/26.
5/24 Affect
Here’s an important point regarding the card transition, as highlighted by astute Reddit users. Since the new Cardless card is a brand new account, it will show up as a new credit card on your credit report. There won’t be a credit inquiry but there will be a new account showing. That’s a huge hit for those who are sensitive to their 5/24 count. (It won’t matter if you elect to close out the old Wells Fargo card or retain it.)
Based on prior experience with a similar card change – a reader suggests that the card might remain labeled an old card with all its years of history, and it will not be considered a new card for 5/24.
Our Verdict
We’re seeing a lot of Bilt news with the addition of Venmo payments, a new ‘Bilt Cash’ rewards program, a GoPuff partnership, points on select mortgages, adding Etihad points transfers, possible upcoming Rakuten-Bilt points earning option.
And now we have the excitement over the ability to earn valuable Bilt points on all mortgage payments. I would recommend tempering excitement until the details are announced in January 2026 – we don’t know what the earning rate will be, what the cap will be, or if the monthly spend requirement will change.
I would guess that the premium $495 card will earn more on mortgage payments than the base card. For example, it might be that the base card will earn 1 point per $3 of mortgage payments, the $95 card will earn 1 point per $2, and the premium card will earn 1 point per $1. I have no idea, just trying to show the possibilities here.
