Capital One has sent out an e-mail to Venture X personal & business cardholders regarding some negative changes to lounge access. Changes are as follows:
Personal card
- Primary cardholders have to pay $125 per additional cardholder (up to 4) to give them access to Capital One Lounges, Capital One Landings and Priority Pass lounges
- Can no longer bring two guests into Priority Pass lounges for free. Discounted rate of $35 per visit
- Can no longer bring two guests into Capital One lounges for free unless you spend $75,000 in a calendar year
- Continue to receive discounted pricing of $45 per guest per visit and a new discounted rate of $25 per visit per guest for those 17 and under (under 2 remains free)
Business card
- Primary cardholders have to pay $125 per additional cardholder (up to 4) to give them access to Capital One Lounges, Capital One Landings and Priority Pass lounges
- Can no longer bring two guests into Capital One lounges for free unless you spend $75,000 in a calendar year
- Continue to receive discounted pricing of $45 per guest per visit and a new discounted rate of $25 per visit per guest for those 17 and under (under 2 remains free)
Our Verdict
Sort of surprised that this lasted this long to be honest.
The other day, I was #126 in the waitlist at DEN. Tired of seeing groups of 3-4 people going ahead of me, flying solo. Just double the AF of all credit cards giving lounge access.
If someone wants to bring their dear spouse or partner, please pay $125 for their annual access or let them get their own card.
That’s not gonna change, you’re just gonna be #45 next time. As someone said below, ppl will pay and keep eating…
Is the BofA Premium Rewards Elite Credit Card now the only card that doesn’t charge for AU and gives them Priority Pass?
The Ritz Carlton from Chase doesn’t charge for AU and gives PP too
So, does this mean that if one uses the ‘Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse’ at LAX, that each guest will be $70? ($35 guest fee plus $35 ‘upgrade fee’)
The authorized user Priority Pass is huge killer for me. It was the only way I could get my mom the Lounge Access
Same. In fact, I kept paying the annual fees only because it’d allow my parents to travel more comfortably. I don’t use the credit card or the PP card myself.
Ditto with the original post though that I’ve been surprised that the generous benefits lasted this long.
But how often were you/mom actually able to use PP? I cannot even remember and travel quite a bit.
PP has issue:
While I understand to restrict excessive use. But these restrictions makes the PP only viable for DINKS and Loners and still not solve the problem.
I don’t think C1 making this change will change enough in overcrowding of PP lounges. There are other passes with the same lounges in network. And there are other credit card issuers that come with lounge passes.
Think about when it started to be overcrowded and hard to get in. Until we get the amount of PP membership to the same or lower level, you wont see any improvement.
I moved on from Amex lounges and now will move on from PP. Bye Bye.
And moved to United Club, even with the recent change, is more useful to me and family.
PP can be good outside of the US. In Europe for example, there are airports with 3-4 PP lounges and they are rarely packed.
wish they at least allowed one guest…
i don’t find this change to be negative at all. In fact, it is a welcomed positive! No overcrowded lounges, no kids thinking it’s a playground, no 10 family members, etc. This is not what lounges were designed for.
While I agree with you, they should have atleast allowed 1 guest with the primary cardholder.
Oh yeah? What about my son? Say that to his face you monster.
You are confusing the direction of a benefit change with how much superior you feel over other people. By your logic, I’d welcome Capital One to discontinue lounge access for all card holders because I have PP through another carrier… but it still doesn’t change the fact that the value of the Capital One card just dropped a notch.
I am not confusing anything. The original reason for lounges were for the business class. Not people entering with 10 kids and/or 10 family members. It has actually gone UP a notch in my book for not kowtowing to people like you. #fuktard
For the business class? Or perhaps you think it’s for loners like you? I certainly agree that the authorized users was a much needed cut but to cut out the use of companions in a lounge, especially for those who travel with a partner or small family, is absurd. Though, a lonely Incel like you who can’t even afford a private jet wants to complain about public transport having public users. Perhaps you would have been more agreeable if you had just stuck with the overcrowding and the excessive free memberships on authorized users with no annual fees. #pissoff
Capital One lounges (which is all this applies to) have absolutely nothing to do with business / premium travel. If you’re actually flying business, you’re not in a CapOne lounge anyways.
I think you missed the message pal. It’s the sudden announced cut back with the dial pegging E for empty.
P1 (primary) and P2 (AU) travel sometimes solo or as a pair. Until this announcement this arrangement is perfect for us. But I get it, I do visually cringe when I see a group of 6 walk into the lounge knowing it’s a P1 and AU + 4 friends or family. Why not bring the whole team of 12? Limits are needed but this is too far, too inconvenient, for too many people unless you travel solo 100% never with travel companions, spouses, or friends.
I suppose Cap1 could have taken it even further limiting one pass through the food line and establishing bar drink coupons for those that spend >= 10 grand on their cards in a year…
I’ve never even seen a Capital One lounge.
That’s too bad, they are among the best in the country
This card just isn’t profitable for Capital One, they will need to go to more subprime customers to make it back
Priority pass is probably raising fees on all issuers to deal with the overcrowding.
Each year a new negative change the last one will be to raise the annual fee
Not everyone agrees that this is negative. You’re sore because you’re 10 family members/kids can’t get in now for free. AHHHHH quiet!!!
Dude give your throat a rest. its is a negative change for the card (maybe positive for overcrowded lounges) but you are fighting every comment about it.
Plenty of people will see this as a negative if they travel with a partner often and utilized the PP lounges for a single guest. Eliminating guests instead of limiting the number is a significant change.
Also
Sam had a very reasonable comment, no idea why you decided to react so emotionally.
Because I said ahhh…quiet? You can interpret words on a screen as to how I am feeling? HAHAHAHA Please tell me the lottery numbers for Saturday since you’re so good at predicting things.
In another comment thread you just called someone a fuktard because they disagreed with you. I’ll leave you to your clear emotional stability.
Having a breakdown in the Venture X lounge thread is impressive though, I’ll give you that.
Drew actually is psychic.
Quit yapping troll.
Might as well change the card name to Venture EX.
My primary driver is USBAR and I’m glad my wife’s cash+ card was switched to USBAR before they shut it down. Together, we get 16 visits with a $150 annual fee. I’ll happily stick with US Bank and earn 4.5% cash back rather than deal with this subpar card and its “terrible” portal experience and $125 additional cardholder fee.
Thanks Cap1 for making it super easy for me to cancel your card!
C ya!
