Our Verdict
The prior offer was $750/$7,500 and it’s now increased to $1,500/$15k. The Plus version also has a nice signup bonus currently of $2,000 with $30,000 spend. Most people will prefer this $1,500/$15k bonus on the regular non-Plus Spark card.
However, note, the Plus version does not get reported to the credit bureas whereas this non-Plus Spark card that we’re discussing here does get reported. Personally I’d be interested in this one, but the card will push me over 5/24 due to reporting, and so I’ll probably give this one a miss.
Capital One pulls all 3 bureaus on applications. Check out these Things To Know about Capital One Credit Cards. We’ll add this to our list of Best Current Credit Card Signup Bonuses.
Hat tip to KryptOKyle
got declined for spark card and they offer classic card with no signup bonus. Do they have any phone number for reconsideration line chase ?
Denied during application. Excellent credit. Presumably due to the Chase Ink and Marriott AMEX opened this year.
Referral bonus of $500 is significant. If you have a P2, spending $10k on this can get you $1000 bonus, $200 from the spend, and $500 from referral for a total of $1700 or 17% back. The cash can also be easily be converted to CapOne miles if you have a Venture X card at $1 = 100 points.
Downside is it does count as a personal card and CapOne is quite random with approvals compared to Chase and Amex
I was wrong here, the $500 referral bonus can only be applied as a statement credit, can’t be converted to points. Still nice though.
Looks like this offer was pulled. Now $1,000 bonus for $10,000 spend.
I got “Based on your application information, the owner of this legal entity type has too many new credit card accounts” and “Based on your application information, the owner of this legal entity type has too many credit card closures and recent inquiries given their business revenue”. If you ask me, I have just the right amount. This was from a mailer.
got the offer by mail but no mention of pre-approval/ Does the mailer improve approval odds?
Fwiw, applied using pre-approved offer complete with ‘enter this code.’ No go. Wasted hard pulls.
That sucks
Yeah, no more Cap one
Had the same experience. I usually don’t even try for Capital One because of the 3 pulls, but the mailer with a code made me think I’d get it. I was mistaken.
Is anyone getting pre-approved for this card?
Before the 1.5k increased bonus, P1/P2 have been always pre-approved for it. But now, we’re only pre-approved for Spark Cash Select / Miles / Miles Select
I would appreciate some DPs!
Maybe Cap1 just tightened its requirements for this card
I was trying to test the pre approval tool with different values for income and monthly spending for my business to see if could hack it to get preapproved, but it seems that led to it now saying I’m not preapproved for ANY business cards. Perhaps they look for recent soft pulls from the tool and use that against you?
I would think this is basically you telling the bank – “I am not being very truthful”
Fair enough. But my feeling is that even checking personal approvals after checking business approvals counts against you, although I could be wrong.
does this generate a 1099 int like C1 has done before..
Screw Capital One. I was just declined for this deal even though I have large amount of income, do more than $45k in spend for clients & personal and always pay on time. Never been declined by Amex or Chase.
FYI when I did the pre-approval it only showed the other cards but I decided to risk the credit pull. So if it doesn’t show in your pre-approval don’t waste your time
I would think you could have applied for one of the other cards which the pre-approval showed you do qualify for and you would have not gotten another pull
