Capital One Will Open Airport Lounge In Washing D.C. (IAD) in 2021

Via CNBC, Capital One has announced it won a bid to open an airport lounge at Dulles International Airport in Washington D.C. The lounge is slated to open in 2021. The 9,100-square-foot space is rumored to have premium liquors and wines, dining, quiet rooms, a workout room, a conference room, a shower room, select spa services, and a children’s play room.

Until now, American Express is the only bank with their Centurion lounges; it’s quite interesting to see Capital One compete in this space. In the case of AmEx, lounge access is granted to their premium cardholders. We don’t yet know how it’ll play out in the case of Capital One. Reports indicate that access to the lounge will be granted for a fee, but it’s possible they’ll offer it as a perk on some of their credit cards as well.

Interesting. I would have put my money on Chase being the next bank to enter the lounge game.

This is silly, IAD has great priority pass options already

Hopefully they will come out with their own premium credit card now! And a huge sign up bonus to boot!

Maybe first they should work on revamping that hideous logo of theirs. Windows 98 paint anyone? They need something modern and sleek.

Definitely pretty cool to see. Glad Capital One has decided to take the travel rewards space seriously.

I welcome this competition in lounges, but they need to modify how they service credit cardholders to match most other banks to be taken more seriously in this realm, at least for those who arent subprime. They dont let you request a certain credit line, they resist increasing your limit at all, they refuse limit increases or even card approvals if you do NOT carry a balance, and then if you combine limits of two cards into one by closing one, they will yank back the transferred limit a few months later if you havent used the bigger limit enough to please them. I also thought it strange they refused conversion of QuickSilver to Savor, even after calling and asking multiple times. I experienced all of these myself and so decided to stop using them, but have cards with all other major issuers and havent had these issues. I have excellent credit and strong or very high limits with other issuers.

I’ve experienced some of these myself, and they’ve denied several of my requests for Spark, but the limit they gave for Venture is very generous, they’ve easily waived the fee on Venture, they always give me inconvenience credits when they deny my foreign transactions (try getting one of these from Chase, which denies 100% of my 3DS transactions without any way of approval apart from calling Chase’s outsourced call centre, which never gives any credits, even after escalation to a supervisor).

Also, I’ve recently forgot to pay my balance twice within 12mo by whatever stupid evening time in ET that C1 specifies, paying it before same time MT instead, and both times after a short phone call, I got both the AF as well as a few hundred bucks worth of interest credit back, which is definitely something that’s pretty pleasant (some banks automatically don’t charge you, but, then again, I’m sure some do charge and don’t budge on giving it back).

They might not have the most CC reward perks, but their CS is always top-notch and local, and 3DS for foreign transactions always works.
