[Expired] (Update) Chase Sapphire Reserve: 100% Cashback On Calm Subscription (Sleep & Meditation App)

Update: reader Adam notes that there is also $10 back from Topcashback on a subscription which can make this a small moneymaker.

The Offer

Check your Chase Sapphire Reserve card for the following offer:

  • Earn 100% cash back on your 1-year Calm Premium subscription via calm.com when you spend $34.99 or more, with a $69.99 cash back maximum, including taxes and after any discounts.
  • Many are seeing an offer for 50% back on their Sapphire Preferred card.

“Calm is the #1 app to help you sleep more, stress less, and live mindfully with a range of science-backed content and activities for daily mental health support. Calm your mind. Change your life.”

The Fine Print

  • Offer expires 5/31/2025. Must make first recurring payment by 6/14/2025.
  • Offer valid on first payment only.
  • Offer only valid on purchases made directly with the merchant online through calm.com. Offer not valid on purchases made using third-party services or a third-party payment account (e.g., buy now pay later). Offer only valid on U.S. purchases. Offer valid one time only. It is possible that the merchant may split your purchase into multiple transactions. Offer redemption awarded as statement credit on the first qualifying transaction amount. Recurring subscription payments begin after trial. For subscription cost and to cancel subscription, please visit merchant website for details.

Our Verdict

Basically a free year since it costs $69.99 for an annual membership; you’ll still get stuck with the sales tax (if there is). Be sure to cancel before it renews if you don’t want to keep it for the paid subscription; you should be able to cancel immediately and keep the paid year.

TopCashback $10 was declined for this

I started the trial on 3/5 and then was billed $69.99 for 1 year on 3/19. The Chase Offer for $69.99 posted to my account on 3/24.

When I started the trial, I clicked through Top Cashback expecting another $10. After checking their portal today, one of the clicks shows declined for $2.12. The other still says pending. Will report back on any updates. Worst case is I get the free membership.

Had added the offer and paid on weekend. Offer has disappeared from chase now. Hopefully they still pay up

The offer is still there for me, and it posted today. So you’re probably a day ahead of me.

I just got email from Chase saying that I had redeemed the offer. Oddly, it was still listed as active when I looked after the email arrived.

Only have 50% off. I recommend Waking Up. It’s normally pretty expensive, but if you email them and ask for full scholarship, they give you a free membership.

HIGHLY recommend Waking Up!
I have access to both Calm (through my employer for the past four years) and Waking Up.
Waking Up is one of the few things in my life that I happily pay for, simply because I appreciate it so much!
I started using Waking Up with with “I can’t afford it” free scholarship. However recently started paying for it voluntarily :-p

Love the Calm app. 1/2 price during the holidays last year. Got it free for many months with various promos but finally had to pay. Wonder if I can prepay a renewal early…

Love the calm app for sleep stories every night. 50% off @ Black Friday typically as well.

My personal experience: beware of auto renewal, I had a hard time canceling and then they wouldn’t reverse the renewal charge.

Why wouldn’t you cancel at the beginning of the year?

Inside my iPhone app is an offer for 1 year at $39.99. I assume it’s eligible for the Chase offer although Chase refers to a website purchase not the app ?

Although I had an app offer for $39.99, I logged into the website where they offered almost the same, $41.99 plus tax. CSR covers it as you said and maybe TCB will payout so I went with that.

I think I had enrolled a few years ago in an Amex promotion during lockdowns. Maybe they are targeting those customers.

Only available via calm.com, not the app per the terms and conditions

They’ve mentioned in the offer terms – “Offer only valid on purchases made directly with the merchant online through calm.com.”

Thanks. Yes I mentioned those terms but in the end sometimes offers are not as strict as they say. I’m curious if the charge really posts differently in the app. Maybe not worth the risk

Don’t do that. It won’t trigger the offer because you are making an App store purchase that way, not a Calm.com purchase per the offer terms.

ahh…the irony of using a DigRad-spewing device 24-7 then needing a calm app…

I have this offer, and there’s a 2.5% back from Capital One Shopping. I hate them, way too intrusive for my liking, but I signed up with a $40 bonus when I made a transaction and this will redeem it.

Does anyone know if this is taxable in NY? Update – doesn’t seem to be.
