The Offer

No direct link to offer

  • Chase is offering some Sapphire Reserve cardholders a 20% bonus when redeeming points for apple products. This means you can get 1.2¢ per point.

The Fine Print

  • Valid until 11/15/2019

Our Verdict

Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholders get a 50% bonus when redeeming points for travel (1.5¢ per point). You can also transfer to travel partners at a 1:1 rate. Most people will find those options better than redeeming for Apple products. It’s also not even a 20% bonus, because you’re paying full price on these items and can’t go through a portal.

Is there a point where one might have too much invested in UR? Say 500k and this is a way to draw down without traveling?

It’s a trap.

Chase wants to draw down its liability reserves before the end of Q4.

As an accountant and shareholder, that seems pretty plausable to me.

You save 20% off the amount of points redeemed, not 20% off the price of the phone. You’re better off saving the points for travel at the 50% bonus, etc.

I’d make the argument of what if you don’t travel though I can’t imagine anyone having the CSR that doesn’t unless someone got the card for the bonus only and have no use for the points other than cash. In that case, there might be a use but someone like that most likely wouldn’t be frequenting a blog such as this. 🙂

There is also the opportunity cost. Kinda hard to earn points when you’re using points for the purchase.
