Chase Starbucks/Starbucks Prepaid Cardholders: Two Free Drinks Every Weekend In December

The Offer

  • Chase Starbucks/Starbucks Prepaid cardholders are being offered two free drinks every weekend in December (Friday, Saturday, Sunday).

The Fine Print

  • You will receive (2) coupons, each valid for one free coffee, tea or handcrafted beverage (any standard menu size). Coupons may be redeemed at participating Starbucks stores. Product selection varies by location. You may use each coupon one time; unused coupons do not carry over.
  • Chase is not responsible for the provision of, or failure to provide, the benefits and services related to the coupon awarded by Starbucks. Coupon will post directly to your Starbucks® Rewards account and will not appear on your credit card statement.
  • The value of this offer or program may result in miscellaneous income received from Chase and we may be required to send you, and file with the IRS, a Form 1099-MISC (Miscellaneous Income) or Form 1042-S (Foreign Person’s U.S. Source Income Subject to Withholding) for the year in which you participate and are awarded the benefits of the offer/program. You are responsible for any tax liability related to participating in the offer program. Please consult your personal tax advisor if you have any questions about how this could affect your taxes. To be eligible for this offer, account must be open and not in default at the time of fulfillment.

Our Verdict

Nice little freebie, still not worth getting these cards but if you got them for some other reason it’s hard to complain.

Would like more data points as to whether the prepaid debit card involves a credit check? Interested in the prepaid debit card only but do not want to do it if there is a possibility they will do a credit check. Thanks.

Definitely not. (What prepaid debit card DOES involve a credit check?)

It doesn’t—behind the scenes, it’s a Chase checking account with a debit card attached, but no ATM access, no cash withdrawal/deposit, etc. Experian has to been unfrozen just to do an identity verification, as with other Chase banking accounts. I think the only place where it shows up once opened is on EWS reports as a checking account.

Does prepaid card app ask for SSN? Don’t know how I feel about trusting Starbucks with that level of PII…

Anyone unable to apply? When I hit apply it logs into my Starbucks account then gives me this message: “Can’t apply right now — something went wrong on our end. Check back later.” Any suggestions?

Had that problem too. Exit, reload, start new app. Fixed it for me.

Spoke with an agent earlier. Accounts have to have been open prior to Nov 17 to qualify for this offer.

Add an item in the app, during checkout you should be able to see it. I didn’t receive an email nor it was very clear on my app.

All those diabetes jokes about the McDonald’s promotion but none here yet? Some Starbucks drinks (especially anything that will maximize the $ value of these freebies, as we DoC loyalists are committed to choose from) have much higher calories than the Big Mac!
