Check with Discover if You’re Eligible for 2% or 3% Spend Bonus for 6-12 Months

The Offer

Multiple r/churning members are getting spend offers by chatting with Discover agents and requesting them:

  • Get an extra 2% cashback bonus on all purchases in the next 12 months, up to $7,500 in purchases.
  • Get an extra 3% cashback bonus on all purchases in the next 6 months, up to $2,500 in purchases.

Our Verdict

The 2-3% spend offers will work on ordinary spend to bump up your total cashback to 3% or 4%, and it can work on the 5% categories to bump them up to 7% or 8%. I’m not sure if this is an offer that’ll be sent out or if it’s the kind you have to request to get. Worth giving a chat and seeing if you are eligible.

FYI – alive and well. I called in and mentioned a friend had a bonus cashback offer on their account “something like 2 or 3% extra”. The first rep didn’t know what I was talking about, but ran me through the 5% categories and offered to transfer me to another dept. Second rep didn’t know either, but I specifically asked for a supervisor (nicely). Supervisor put me on hold for a few minutes and came back with 3% extra up to $2.5k spend in 6 months. Great timing for me!

I’ve been w/ Discover for 10 years… Called and first rep said she wasn’t aware of this, but escalated me to her supervisor who said only supervisors can apply this promo. The 3% add’l CB was on up to $1500 over six months.

No offer for me after being a loyal cardmemember and user for over 10 years. That’s pretty disappointing.

Quick DP from today (so you also know deal is still alive):

One try with Chat – Standard response (“It’s targeted, so no soup for you” 😉 )

One try calling – spoke to 3 people:
1.) general CSR: “Offer not in account”
2.) Had asked for transfer to ‘promo department’, but whoever I got on the line here was totally clueless what I was even talking about.
3.) Escalated to supervisor, who instantly gave me 3%, 2.5k deal. Took it.

So in conclusion: it really depends who you speak to and it can’t hurt to escalate matters if you really want the deal…

I have had my discover card since 1992. Some of you on this thread may have never been born yet:). Anyways when I called the guy said no promo on my account. Of course, I complained and got a discover card specialist. My card will be automatically converted to Discoverit which is going to eventually happen for everyone. !% cash back automatically in addition to the 5% quarterly promos. I will also receive an additional 3% 6 months up to $1500. Keep in mind these percentages are cumulative so 5% categories will equate to 8%.
I can’t believe initially they gave me a hard time. So make sure you tell them you will close your account unless they provide a promo!!! Good Luck!

Totally struck out via phone, and I can’t seem to find the actual chat link on Discover that I always thought was available. The phone rep was the worst I’ve had in my 6 yrs with Discover. She was pleasant enough, just seemed the least informed of anyone I’ve talked to there, and I’ve always been way impressed with their phone reps. I tried to explain the offer referenced here, and she just kept reiterating the 2020 5% categories, and put me on hold 3 times in the process. I ended up feeling sorry for her more than being annoyed at the situation, and I hope this isn’t the start of a crack in Discover’s armor. She did actually mention that there’s a problem with the online chat – not sure if that was said to placate me, or there really is an issue. I hope to try again via chat, if it becomes available.
