Our Verdict

You can get a bonus of 100,000 without upgrading. The advantage to upgrading is that you should be able to get the bonus even if you’ve had the Business Platinum before. If that’s you and you’re targeted then this offer is worth considering as normally you wouldn’t be able to get the bonus again. Just keep in mind the $450 annual fee. That’s partially offset by the $200 airline credit and other benefits (e.g lounge access) but still might not be worth it for some especially if you already have another variation of a Platinum card. Spend requirement of $10,000 might also be difficult for a lot of readers to meet.

If you have any questions about upgrade offers, please read this post before asking any questions. General American Express questions are likely answered here.

I just got an error when hitting it but it worked in incognito.

What are you upgrading, any Amex business card? A regular Platinum card?

JS
JS

It says: “To request an upgrade, you must be the Basic Card Member.” Basic card? Personal Platinum card???

Lrdx
Lrdx

That only means you cannot be an authorized user (or in case of business cards, have an employee card) to upgrade..

LC
LC

business green or business gold.

Lrdx
Lrdx

Business Gold or Green Rewards, I’d guess.

“This offer is no longer available…” is the message I get.

Thelement

I get the same one. I have a BGR but open < 1 year.

P
P

That’s probably the reason. One is less than one year as well.

Works for me. AMEX business gold upgrade.

JS
JS

Why do you upgrade if you can get more bonus by signing up the regular card??

Lrdx
Lrdx

If you already had the card, you are not eligible for more signup bonuses, but you can still get upgrade offers.

JS

What card do you upgrade from?

Lrdx

From another AmEx Business charge card, obviously.

You definitely 100% CANNOT get 100k points on the business platinum by calling in anymore. Please fix, thanks,.

I did literally 2 weeks ago. It’s still doable.

Does Amex Platinum cards are of any use for someone who doesn’t travel much especially if someone already have the CSR ?
I mean the AF negates the bonus points and other benefits are useful for someone who travels a lot.

It’s kinda tough for value outside of travel. Of course you can cash out the points with Schwab to get a little more than the annual fee cost. But the air incidental credit, global entry and lounge access are all travel. Maybe the Uber credit is something that could be useful?

MarcoPolo
MarcoPolo

The reason I like CSR is that it’s travel credit can be used on any kind of travel. In comparison Amex Plat $200 travel credit is not much of a use as even if I travel there isn’t much of incidental charges and bying gift cards is becoming more of a miss then a hit.
I agree $200 Uber credit can be useful but $15 per month limits it’s use.
I have been thinking about and researching this topic for days and in the end I have been unable to convince myself to apply for any of the Amex Plat cards except Schwab since I can cash out my 80,000MR points already in my account. If I apply for Shwab then I can still justify the AF since I am getting 40,000 (20000+ about 20000) over Schwab Plat’s 60000 MR bonus points.
So, in the end I walk away with $1850 – $550 = $13000 +$200 Uber credit.

No uber credit in business platinum.

1) Agree with you on how the Uber $15/month limit really reduces it usefulness in many cases.
2) Also many might struggle trying to use all the $200 incidental travel credit.

Forgot to mention this at first, the email says the offer has his expiration :
If your request is not received by 4/30/2018, we will not process your request.

I had the card in January and used my airline incidentals (Alaska Airlines) and when my AF hit I cancelled. From my business good card they offered me an upgrade back to the Platinum for the 50k points for 10k spend BUT since I used my airline credits in January they are not issuing me more airline incidental credits. Is that shady?
The AF was prorated to $290.00

I’ve got BGR, I had this offer emailed to me about 3 months ago. I signed up for Biz Plat right before I got this offer.

When I clicked the email, it told me it was no longer available, even though it wasn’t expired for at least a few weeks. I’ve been back and forth with Amex support trying to get the offer to work but I’m pretty sure I’m SOL.

On a separate note: This morning, I received 60KMRs from the MS Plat using Windbag’s method of setting up an MS Access account with no out of pocket deposits.

06/05/2018 Earned MS Plat $5K Spnd/60K MR Pts 60,000

Thanks DOC for the reference and link to this amazing breakthrough!!!!
I can’t say enough!!

“5x points per $1 spent on purchases made with airlines or hotels booked directly…”
Do we have any data points indicating this actually works?
The official language states 5x is only for AmexTravel for the business Platinum.

Read it wrong. Please ignore my previous comment.

I just received my bonus points! I was offered this upgrade back in February. BTW, if you’ve used your calendar airline incidentals before the upgrade they won’t give you another $200 once you upgrade. I was prorated on my fee so I paid $275 or something but I did receive the 50,000 bonus points.

Lantean
Lantean

How could you have used airline incidentals before the upgrade?
The gold business card does not offer airline incidentals credits.
How did you do this? Thanks.

Beat2def
Beat2def

It’s confusing. I had the bus plat card in Jan the used the airline incidentals. After that, when my AF hit, I downgraded to the business green card. A month later I received the offer to upgrade to the biz plat. I revived the 50k offer but they wouldn’t give me the airline incidentals again (until the following Jan).
