Chime Launches New Secured Credit Card

Chime has launched a new and improved secured credit card. Card has the following features:

  • Card earns 1.5% cash back on rotating categories for Chime+ users (groceries, gas, and restaurants)
  • Members can choose from free styles in colors like Classic Black or Evergreen, or upgrade to a Titanium finish for $50 plus tax
  • No annual fee

As far as secured credit cards go, this is actually pretty good. Anything that actually earns rewards and has no annual fee is a win in the secured card market. Fortunately most readers won’t need a secured card so this is useless for them.

Titanium makes this secured card even more secured.

Could be good, I have a couple family members who I don’t think are responsible enough for a normal credit card, but that could still benefit from better credit. Might recommend this to them if it works like their current credit builder card.

What is their differentiator pitch between their credit builder thingy vs this? IMO they should completely remove the credit builder thingy and transistion that userbase to secured cards, while also launching a newer credit card with SUBs, and rewards – the usual stuff.
