Citi has announced that new credit cardholders will get an additional 3 months to meet the spend requirement for signup bonus on new credit cards. That’s 6 months total from time of approval. The change applies for applications made between December 1, 2019 and May 31, 2020.
This means that any new cards you signup for this month will have double the spend time. Also, if you already have a card, you’ll get an extra 3 months to spend.
We’ve seen similar moves by other card issuers as well. This change hasn’t yet been communicated with cardholders, but Frequentmiler received this info from the Citi PR team.
Chatted w/Citi and nobody can find any proof of this extension. Seems like most of the articles online source back to Frequentmiler, which is filled w/comments of people who are saying the same thing: Citi never actually announced this. If you applied at the < 3 months ago, I would recommend not waiting to meet spend since I am currently arguing w/Citi on this and no end in sight.
I did not find anything official from Citi, just a few blog posts peddling Citi cards (not on this site, obviously). I would be careful with this, personally I plan to meet the spend requirements within the specified time frame.
This is great for those who applied for the Citi Premier cards as they can now wait until 3x on groceries pops up in August
Great point! Also, the Citi Prestige’s $250 credit applying toward groceries could help between now and Aug.
This is automatically applied, right?
Yes, I believe so.
Have you seen any official note? I checked via Chat and the rep said there was no such extension
THanks much.
was just about to call them for and extension.
