Our Verdict
There is another offer for 60,000 miles after $3,000 in purchases. So it’s basically 10,000 miles vs $100 in statement credit (from American Airline purchases). I think American Airlines gift cards will code as an AA purchase so they should work for this purpose. Normally I’d say the miles are better but it has been very difficult to find American Airlines saver space recently making the miles significantly less valuable.
If it was just a straight up $100 statement credit I’d probably prefer that offer, but I don’t typically redeem for premium cabin space so that reduces the ‘value’ of miles (plus I have way too many miles). There is also a 60,000 mile bonus on the business card. You can get that bonus even if you’ve had a personal card before (and vice versa).
Keep in mind this card contains the following language:
- Statement credit and American Airlines AAdvantage® bonus miles are not available if you have had any Citi®/AAdvantage® card (other than a CitiBusiness®/AAdvantage® card) opened or closed in the past 24 months.
