[Expired] Citi American Airlines 60,000 Miles Business Offer (Possible Match to 75,000 Mile Offer)

Bonus has expired and is no longer valid. View the best current credit card bonuses here.

Reposting due to new 60,000 mile offer being found (thanks to reader Saturn via ninim2200 on Flyertalk). This offer is particularly appealing at the moment due to the fact that lots of people are being successfully matched to 75,000 points.

Card Details

  • Annual fee of $95 is waived the first year
  • Contains one American Airlines business bonus per 24 month language

Our Verdict

This offer contains the following language:

  • This card is not available if the business already has a CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select®World Mastercard® card. Bonus miles are not available if you have had any CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® card opened or closed in the past 24 months.

We discuss this rule more here. This means you can get this bonus and the 60,000 mile offer on the personal card. It has been possible to get this bonus for some time, but it required asking to be matched and I know a lot of readers prefer this much easier route (and who wouldn’t?) Downside to American Airlines is trying to find saver space. I’d still sign up for this bonus if I was eligible as it’s as good as it gets and it starts your 24 month clock as well. Before applying read these things you should know about Citibank.

  1. Matthew says:

Sorry if I missed this but if I have a TY biz card, do I have to cancel it before getting an AA biz card from Citi? I thought Citi may have allowed only one business card per SSN/etc but maybe it was within the same product family. Not sure.

    • Sam says:

It is only card per product family so you couldn’t get 2 AA biz cards.

      • Matthew says:

William, I am really confused. Are you saying TY biz and AA biz are within the same family? Only one bonus every 24 months after close/opening of ANY biz card?

I read that post, but it again is very confusing. You reference to where Chuck talks about business cards, but nowhere in the article does this show on my end. I have refreshed multiple times. You did mention a part where Chuck used to have a comment about business cards, but it is either deleted or not published.

Thank you for clearing things up for me. It has been a while since I had an AA biz card, but I do have an open and current TY biz. I greatly appreciate your help.

        • Bob says:

The same family refers to cards that have the same product branding. So TY biz is a family, AA biz is a family.

        • AA personal cards are one group, AA business cards are another group. You can get one bonus per group (or “family”) every 24 months. If you haven’t opened or closed an AA business card within the last 24 months – you’re eligible for a bonus on the AA business card. Hope that makes sense.

          • Matthew says:

Thanks, William. I thought when you said “they” are in the same family you were talking about the Citi ThankYou biz and AA biz being part of the same family. I know not a lot is known about the TY biz card since it’s not talked about much. I’m hopeful Citi will approve me for the AA biz card while still having the TY biz, but I guess I really should shut it down soon. I’ve used almost all of the TY points.

          • Having the Citi TY biz will not affect you’re eligibility for this card. Only having the AA business opened or closed in the last 24 months will.

  2. Sam says:

Not complaining, but I wonder why the 24 month rule keeps personal and business separate?

    • No idea, most likely business cards are profitable enough and restricted it’s not a huge concern.

    • sdsearch says:

Probably because want to encourage non-churning customers who got ONE personal AA card in the past year to also get a business AA card, and the only way they can make that work with their 24-month rule is to keep personal and business separate. (Ie, it has nothing to do with making churning easier.)

  3. Andrew says:

American Airlines miles should be called ScAAm miles. The availability is so bad, especially on international flights. I’m sitting on 160k miles that I just don’t know what to do with, and I don’t even have the Citi cards yet.

    • Liface says:

Andrew, I’ve never had problems finding availability on flights to Latin America through Miami.

    • Steve says:

The availability is bad? Bro I just booked an Etihad First Apartment from Mumbai to JFK. That’s bad to you?

      • MSer says:

Yes, availability is generally lousy – the worst of domestic airlines

      • Gahan says:

planning to book the same, how many miles and tax did it cost?

      • blueeyes_austin says:

The biggest issue is with AA flights to hubs for partners or AA metal across the water.

        • anne says:

I don’t live in one the big cities that have flights to Asia. So yes it is a pain for me to redeem these award tickets every year. The biggest issue is the award fligt from my city to one of the hubs (e.g. ORD, Dallas ot IAH).

    • Aidan says:

See comment below. Very good options available if you know where to look!

    • Jason says:

Stop flying on AA planes – use AA miles to book on *partner* flights like Etihad, Cathay, etc, and you will be happier and miles go further.

    • Jed says:

I use all of my AA miles on rental cars. Just booked a $750 rental for only 40K AA miles. It’s the best redemption value.

      • Jimbo says:

I booked Japan Airlines J class from Tokyo to JFK for 60k AA miles. I’d say that’s a better redemption value by far, but it just depends on what you are looking to get out of it personally.

    • Michael says:

You have to call AA reservations. They will want to charge you $50 for making the reservation over the phone but just tell them you were unable to make it on the website and they will waive the fee. I flew round trip from SFO to Calcutta on Emirates in December/January using AA miles.

    • James says:

Booked 2 RT business class from LAX to Tokyo. Could have done First Class if I wanted to fly on a weekday. Never understood when people complain they have a tons of AA miles and don’t know what to do with it. People just are inefficient or lazy in their research to optimize.

  4. NP says:

    > This means you can get this bonus and the 60,000 mile offer on the personal card.

Does this mean that if I’ve never had the business card (but have had the personal version of the card), I am eligible for the bonus?

  5. Bob Newbie says:

Went to pending, it said to call a number for an instant decision.
After a few minutes she said a decision isn’t available right now but I should know in 7-10 days & I can check the status online.

Is this normal? Should I also apply for the personal card?

    • Aidan says:

I had this recently on the aa business card. I did supply some abnormal info on application which I presume didn’t go in my favor i.e. non-US citizen. Wouldn’t be real hopeful with that language after my experience but everyone is different.

    • bullfrog23414 says:

I went to pending with a number to call. I can’t remember, is it better just to wait it out?

    • Bob Newbie says:

Just an update on this.. was just approved today with a 20k credit limit after going to pending.

  6. Kimberly says:

The only luck I’ve had finding American Airlines saver awards lately is by booking really far out. A few weeks ago I found and booked saver awards for a trip to Germany in December. It’s the first time I’ve found saver awards in a long time, and there’s also the factor of low demand for trips to Europe in winter. Either way, American Airlines miles are definitely difficult to redeem efficiently right now.

    • P says:

That’s why I don’t get excited about these AA miles offers any more. I live in Hawaii and it’s even harder to find saver awards to go somewhere. That’s pretty much our complaints here when we call to cancel our Citi AA cards.

    • Roscoe says:

AA miles suck. I’m sitting on 1.5 million of them and can never find a decent redemption. Only redemptions available are always BA (huge fees), and/or horrible connections (3 stops with long layovers from US west coast to Europe) with domestic legs in coach.
Virtually ALL the partner availability shown on is phantom.
I no longer bother collecting AA miles, even if they’re free – they’re useless.
No airline works harder and longer to deliberately screw their FF members than AA.

      • Dave C says:

Meh, just booked Labor Day weekend trip MSY-LIM about 2 months ago. We use AA at least once a year on international itineraries. Last year at Christmas they were one half of our Europe / Iceland trip. Not sure why everyone loves to jump on them.

      • James says:

I recently booked two RT business class on JAL from LAX to Tokyo. My friend just booked two First Apartments from Abu Dhabi to JFK.

Sounds like you are just inadequate in your abilities. Especially if your looking for partner availability on lol. If people put the same amount of effort in learning redemption optimization as points accumulation, they would be fine.

  7. Aidan says:

    Hey Will,

Great site! Thanks for putting the good word out there.

I applied for the personal Plat Select in Feb and was approved. Does the language on the business card offer disqualify me for the deal?

Not sure if you made a typo where it says “can apply” – just wanted to reconfirm.

PS – also to the unhappy people mentioned that AA miles aren’t worth much – they are worth incredible value if redeemed correctly. 50k EY First Dreamliner 787 or 777 AUH-SIN vice versa. 40k for same in business. Incredible value. Incredible flight. Also AUH-EU 45k each way for business on 380, 777 and 787. Also 70k business for AUH-USA etc on 380, 777 and 787. Forget redeeming inside America and you’ll open your eyes to the real hidden value of aa miles. Welcome.

  8. Rox says:

Newbie here. I sell on ebay but no EIN or LLC. Is it easy to get biz card?

If it goes to recon, any resource on how to handle?

Lastly, any idea on how long this will offer will last as I was going for 70k united offer. I don’t have the bandwidth to do both at the same time.

  9. Erik says:

I got “Your application is pending further review and we need additional information from you. Please call 800-695-5171 now to receive an immediate decision”

I do have over 6 cards in the last 6 months so not sure if that affected anything

  10. iva says:

Got 50K offer mid jan. When i login, I could not find a place online where i can send a secure message to match to the 60k offer. Any email or phone number? Suggestions on what works best?

  11. Katye says:

I applied and got approved for this card on 3/6 when there was no 24 month language. Just PM’ed and got matched to the 60k bonus. Yay!

  12. adam d says:

Just got approved for like 50k less than 2mos ago, any successfull matches usually with AA?

  13. MontyFC says:

How strict is Citi with “business”? Amex level strict or Chase level strict?

  14. MontyFC says:

Got approved for the “business” card. 20K limit, last citi card was back in 2014 (Citi Double).

6 queries in past 6 months on both EQ and EX, while 0 on TU.

    800+ CS

Need the card not for AA but for their partners 🙂

    • VL says:

Since you mentioned that you need the miles for AA partners, would you please provide a few examples for the “sweet spot” redemption options of AA miles for partners?
What is your targeted redemption for those miles?
      Thank you in advance!!!

      • Dave C says:

        • VL says:

          Ok. Got your point.

Any decent redemption options please? Preferably from Los Angeles (LAX). What can I do with 75K AA miles?

          • Rahul says:

Go to, people share their redemption routes there. shows you route prices with partner airlines. Like someone said above, optimal redemption takes work (a different kind of work), just like MSing to get your bonus. But you can get 4-5 cpp (cents per point) redeeming for J class international travel if that’s your thing. I just booked 1-way business class on Etihad for 70k miles ATL-HYD, valued at $2,850. Had to search for inventory on, and there wasn’t much available, but it worked for my dates.

Bottom line: Plan to do some legwork after earning the miles to actually use them and plan to be flexible. You might have to hold on to the miles till an awesome redemption option comes available that matches your travel plans and schedule. And till then you may have to pay cash for flights. It’s annoying but this isn’t a hobby for the impatient 🙂 Good luck!

  15. Nancy says:

Got approved for the business card after verifying my address (applied with a different address than my my other accounts – should’ve known better). My EX is frozen – they pulled EQ (FICO 732).

Also hoping to use the miles for partner flights.

  16. MontyFC says:

Send a SM to successfully match the 60k offer to the targeted 65k offer for same spend.

  17. Dan says:

Any idea when does this offer expire?

  18. Chicagoan33 says:

Hi does this card not count towards Chase 5/24? Thanks!

    • Chicagoan33 says:

Found my answer: Citi business credit cards don’t get reported to the personal credit bureaus which is useful for keeping your credit report cleaner.

  19. Matthew says:

Saw this offer for 50k plus $100 statement credit for AA purchase within the first 12 months:

For a limited-time: Earn 50,000 American Airlines AAdvantage® bonus miles after spending $3,000 in purchases within the first 3 months of account opening
Plus new cardmembers can earn up to $100 in statement credits on eligible American Airlines purchases in the first 12 months of account opening.**

**Up to $100 in statement credits on eligible American Airlines purchases
New cardmembers approved through this offer will receive statement credits on eligible American Airlines purchases made to their new CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® card (in one transaction or several), up to a maximum total of $100 in the first 12 months of account opening. Eligible American Airlines purchases are items billed by American Airlines as merchant of record booked through American Airlines channels (, American Airlines reservations, and American Airlines airport and city ticket counters). Products or services that do not qualify are car rentals, hotel reservations, American Airlines Vacations packages, purchase of elite status boost or renewal and AA CargoSM products and services. If instantly authorized, cardmembers will receive temporary account information and a temporary minimum credit limit. This temporary account information can be used during payment for the current eligible American Airlines purchases at time of checkout to receive the statement credit. If not instantly authorized, the new card account can be used on future eligible American Airlines purchases to earn the statement credit so long as those purchases occur within 12 months of account opening. Statement credit(s) will appear on the monthly credit card billing statement from Citi within 1-2 billing cycles from when the purchase is made.

  20. SuddenValley says:

    Hey DoC,

Looks like your 60k AA link isn’t working currently. When I tried to click into the application I received a generic timeout ‘couldn’t process your application at this time’. I’ve browsed around and found this working link from US credit card guide:

WARNING: this might be an affiliate link. I removed the ‘prospect ID’ string from the URL so I think it should be fine but just a heads up.

In other news, the 60k AA personal plat is still working just fine even though they said they pulled the offer.

  21. Sonia says:

Is there a recommended TYP business card I can apply for? Im targeting those at the moment. Thanks!

  22. Jelena says:

I have no Citi personal cards. Any idea if they would approve a business card as a first card? I have business cards with Amex and Chase, but had personal cards first.

    • Saturn says:

That should not be an issue. Do you have your own business? I do not, but I followed the advice on FT. Don’t make up business income which does not exist. This might invite scrutiny.

  23. Sam says:

My opinion might be unpopular and not to sound greedy, but some things are better left unsaid.
Thousands of people are now going to SM Citi on any AA card they have had ever and ask for match to 75k, even though they will only match typically within 3 months of card open. This is not a good idea, especially when you dont qualify for it. I have a feeling its going to kill matches and possibly AA no 24 month mailer offers all together.

  24. tina says:

Hello, If this was mentioned, my apologies as I didn’t see it. The AA Citi business will not count towards the Chase 5/24 rule?

  25. VL says:

Will, or anybody else who can advise…

I have a strategical question about this card… I am going to need AAdvantage card some time next year (beginning of 2018). Obviously I am looking for business card only (would not consider that card if it would go against my 5/24… and plz correct me if I am wrong Citi Business cards are not reported on personal CRs).

The main reason I have a couple of family trips planned on AA, and this card will save me some substantial funds on the luggage fees (up to $200 per round trip)… So, since I am going to get it anyway, I might as well get the bonus. Although AA miles are not that valuable, I would rather collect them if I have a hard pull on my history anyway.

With this being said, should I jump on this offer (60K with potential match to 75K), or offers like this are likely to come along again within next 4-6 months? I did my homework and checked DoC’s spreadsheet of the best offers, and do see that this is one of the best ones (if not the best), but the spreadsheet does not tell me if those offers came up regularly in the past or once in a blue moon.

I totally understand, that there is no guarantee on anything, but if some of you watched Citi offers in the past you may know the trend. Since my primarily focus was Chase and Amex I do not know much about what to expect from Citi, and whether or not this offer is one of the kind or more likely to be around again.

Worst come to worst their standard offer is 30K miles, which are almost worthless on its own, but the spend is just $1K… the reason I would prefer to get the card later it may let me save on luggage fees on one extra trip towards the end of 2018. Obviously this is not a card to keep for the year 2, so I am trying to postpone the application.

Thank you everybody for all your input.

As usual, Thanks BIG time to DoC for the best resource on the net for travelers.

    • Saturn says:

The occasional 50k special offers have been around for a while, the 60k seems to have become the new standard. It is likely to come back. A public link for the Biz version is nice and somewhat more rare than the Personal. For that reason I recommend to get the Biz first and supplement the bonus with the Personal later – provided you have no trouble meeting the minimum spend.

    • This is basically as good as it gets, so I’d go for it now.

  26. Joe says:

FYI – Matched within an hour to 75k offer, via SM. Message actually said they would deposit 15k AA miles into my account now, all I had to do was fulfill my original offer of 60k after $3k spend in 30days.

Originally Applied 30 days ago for 60k offer.

  27. Durga says:

    Thanks Doc!

sent SM for matching 75k offer. got response back saying that they will deposit 15K miles into my account with in 1-2 cycles.

    • Joe says:

What’s the message you sent? Matches for Citi AA cards have been all over the board for me recently. Not sure if it has something to do with my phrasing or the lack of CSR training on consistency.

    Sent this message yesterday afternoon:

Hello – I opened this account recently with a 60,000 bonus point offer, but since have seen a new 75,000 point offer. Could I be matched to that amount? Thanks!

    Response yesterday evening:

We added 15,000 American Airlines AAdvantage® miles to your account. This adjustment will be included in the total monthly mileage on your statement within 2 billing periods.

  30. VM says:

I applied for the card yesterday and was approved. Is there a way to add card to online access before I receive the card – just want to be able to send SM for match to 75k. I was trying to avoid waiting for the card to setup online access – not sure if they will stop matches by then.

  31. Joe says:

Opened the account for the 60k offer last month. Recently SM’d to match to 65k which they did. Tried to get them to go to 75k today and they denied citing the match to 65k already.

  32. Div says:

    Thanks DOC!

I got 20k extra points by matching to 75k from 55k. Just asked to be matched to 75k and within few hrs got response saying 20k will be added to my account in 1-2 days.

  33. sonia says:

how come no one really talks about this card and more the personal version of AA from citi?

  34. Angji says:

I got the Citi AA Biz card on 7/21 through a targeted mailer for 65k after $4k spending in 4 months. I sent Citi a message asking for a match this morning and got a reply with the extra 10k miles in less than 2 hours.

  35. JP says:

Welcome letters usually mention bonus amount. This time it didn’t. And I am first time applicant of citi business. Anyone else’s welcome letter didn’t mention bonus offer?

    • MontyFC says:

My business letters have never mentioned the welcome bonus (personal ones did) and I still received the bonus.

You should be fine, but if you want to confirm just send them SM and they would confirm the welcome bonus terms.

  36. MoreSun says:

Is this dead? I just filled out the application, clicked submit, and then received a “this page cannot be found” message from Citi.

  37. DZ says:

Saw the posting (s) regarding Citi possibly matching to 75K (I signed up in June for 60K), sent them a quick note asking them to do this, and they responding positively! Thanks for the awesome tip!

  38. Wdwd says:

Sent an online message for matching 75k. Replied that this card cannot get any bonus since bonus has been awarded to my name within 24 months. I replied that bonus was for personal card. This is a business card which I never get before. Then they let me to call in. I called the number on the back of the card and asked CSR to confirm the bonus. Got the same answer that this card is not eligible for any bonus. CSR said it doesn’t matter personal or business. If you get it within 24 months, you cannot get it again. I know it is bullsh*t. But if I spend $3000, will the system issue 60k?

  39. AAyyyMilo says:

Is it true that you need to have your oldest account on personal credit report to be at least 60 months to be considered for this card?

  40. SteveH says:

Is it possible to move credit line from personal to business cards with Citi? Just got approved for business AA card but only $3k credit line whereas I have $15k limit on personal AA card.
