Update: I originally said it didn’t made but it looks like the 50,000 + $200 offers are also due to expire on the 21st so it looks like it will in fact matter if those bonuses go away.
Original post: If you read other blogs you’ve probably seen the headlines that the Citi American Airlines bonuses will be ending soon. These bonuses are for 60,000/70,000 miles but the truth is that even if these bonuses do disappear it doesn’t matter and that’s because the best deals are to sign up for these offers:
- Citi American Airlines 50,000 Miles Personal Offer + $200 Statement Credit
- Citi American Airlines 50,000 Miles Business Offer + $200 Statement Credit
You can then ask Citi to match the bonus to 70,000 miles and they will do so. Leaving you with 70,000 miles and a $200 statement credit. Significantly better than the other offers being advertised. When asking for a match, do not call in as you won’t be successful. Instead send a secured message.
I got matched to the 70k offer and the 20k points have already posted to my account. I booked two separate award tickets for $5.60 and $80… will these likely trigger the $200 statement credit?
applied 7/20 got the card 7/30, asked for the match yesterday, and got a Yes! orginal offer 50K+$200, matched to 70K(I think I still have the $200) need to complete $2500 purchase before 11/03 Thank You William!
Applied on 7/21 for the 60k bonus because of this post. Got the card yesterday, 7/30, and sent a SM for 75k match. Got a positive response today!
I have applied on 7/20, and I have just got the card yesterday. I am planning to SM to ask for point match, but I have an old AA card opened a few years ago. Would it affect the point match request by linking the new card to my current login? Or should I create a new login for the new card just to be safe? Thanks
same thing here. i have an old card applied at 2015, it doesn’t matter. still can get the offer matched. I think, even if you create a new login account, they still know you are you.
Another DP: Successful match from 50K/$200 to 70K. Applied for the 50K offer on 7/18, didn’t receive card till 7/27. Registered the card on 7/28 and sent SM. Received match this AM. Thanks Will, wouldn’t have known to do this without the DoC posts.
Glad to help
I applied for the card and was approved and later matched to the number of miles. My question is how to trigger the AA.com 200 offer? I spent over 200 in two separate tickets a few weeks ago and still do not see any statement credit, I chatted with CS and they can not track that offer nor give detail . How long does it take to see the credit int he account ?
You previously answered Yes to the similar question, but we saw multiple DPs in the responses to this and “sister” threads where people reported no credit posted.
Could you please clarify this situation to the extent of your knowledge? Did other users purchased $200 GC or why it possibly went wrong for them? Do we have solid recent DPs where GCs worked?
Thank you SO much in advance, I am sure there are some other users who are slightly confused by the contradicting DPs and answers.
1. Yes, not sure if denominations matter but better to do $50.
Not sure why it didn’t work for other people
Did it work?
I did it in $50 denomination and it reflects on following statement.
The offers are still online today.
It’s 7/22 and the 50K plus 200 is still there. no expiration date when clicking the application? We are safe?
I’m still seeing this “Offer Expires July 21, 2018” on business card.
There was no expiry date on the Personal card even yesterday when I clicked the DoC link yesterday.
I’m seeing this offer on CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® card Offer Expires July 21, 2018:
Limited-time: Earn 75,000 American Airlines AAdvantage® bonus miles after spending $5,000 in purchases within the first 5 months of account opening.

Maybe they are increasing the bonuses to 75 K since everyone is asking for a match to 75K?
since aa points are quite valuable i highly doubt it
Possibly, but that offer has been available for some time. I think they probably won’t expire and will just be extended.
so should i still apply right now and see if it would be matched?
If you’re past 5/24, and you’ve never had a Citi AA card, then yes, apply right now with a public offer and see if it would be matched.
